Reporting both

If I report both my ACT and SAT, will colleges (like UCs) take the better score or will they take both into consideration? I got 1500 on my SAT and a 32 on my ACT.

UC’s will take the highest score from a single sitting. That said, if you finishing your application now, you missed the filing deadline already.

^Howeverr, UCs take test scores through the December tests and thus you can still send test scores.

With certain exceptions, colleges as a whole (including UCs) use that test they believe has the highest composite if you submit both SAT and ACT. The exceptions are: (a) there is at least one college, Rose Hulman, that superstores the combination of tests (uses the highest math from either test and the highest English from the ACT or reading/writing from SAT); and (b) a number of colleges, despite using that test with highest composite, also consider certain higher section scores in some of their colleges, e.g., UIUC uses highest composite but its engineering college will consider a higher math score from the other test in determining admission.

@drusba - any chance you have a link to support your comment regarding UIUC looking at the math score from the other test? That info could prove useful in my DD’s case. Thanks.

I do not have a specific link as to math in engineering but I am aware of that because of knowledge provided over the years by persons who have been involved in engineering admissions. Moreover, it is actually something stated more generally for admissions as a whole. The application instructions now tell you you can self-report scores and if you took multiple tests you should self-report the highest composite and then from the group of tests the highest section scores https://blog.admissions.illinois.edu/?p=28124, and in evaluating admission they consider your highest composite and then also your highest section scores, https://admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/review. UIUC just does not superscore to create a higher composite.

Just adding, I just found a link that actually mentions engineering using the better math score from multiple tests https://blog.admissions.illinois.edu/?p=26720
