So I smoked a little pot back when I was a sophomore, got busted for it by campo, and ended up on non-academic probation with the college for a semester. Now I’m a senior and I’m working on grad school applications and one of the applications is asking if I ever had any disciplinary infractions as an undergrad. So do I lie and hope they don’t find out or should I be forthcoming? There is a box that gives me the opportunity to explain the circumstances and what I learned from the incident. I’m applying to a pretty prestigious program so I’m wondering if honesty will hurt my chances.
You should definitely NOT lie. Besides, this will most likely be on record with the school so it wouldn’t be hard for the grad schools to find out. This doesn’t seem be a major violation at all, so as long as you explain that you learned from your mistake, I don’t think it should affect your chances at admission, esp. since marijuana is now legal in many states.
Should I like specifically state that I got busted for smoking pot?
@jehgbo I think full disclosure is your best option.
