Reporting record changes

I attend a private school where I'm required to take theology courses that do not count for any of the UC a-g requirements. I had chosen to omit these courses because the UC Application Center had told me that it was not necessary to report them on the application.

However, I realized that even though these classes are not a-g and don't count for the GPA calculation, they will still be on my final transcript. So after contacting UCLA admissions, I submitted an Academic Changes form informing them of these theology courses (again, they are not a-g).

Have I jeopardized my offer of admission at UCLA (and every other UC campus I was accepted to) by leaving out these non-a-g courses? Since they're not taken into consideration for my GPA AND I've made the effort to report them now, it shouldn't have any adverse effect, right? My GPA hasn't suffered a major drop or anything; my lowest grade is a single B+.

Any feedback for an anxious admitted freshman?

I realize that no one here is an admissions expert, but still . . . anyone?

Hey,
I recently went through a similar thing because I had to switch on the classes that I put on the coursework other than a-g. When I was trying to report, it didnt let me because it only allows a-g courses to be reported. When I contacted the admission office, the guy gave me an email and told me to report this and send it. So I haven’t heard anything back but fingers crossed.

Thanks–nice to know I’m not the only one worrying here! What date did you send your updated info? The confirmation email said UCLA would let me know “within 15 working days” . . . which feels awfully long to me!

I just sent the email yesterday. 15 days is very long.
How did you report the courses if they were not a-g?

I sent the form yesterday as well. The confirmation email said within 15 days, but on the New Bruins checklist it says “Once you submit your changes we will review them in the context of your overall record, and will let you know whether they affect your admission within 5 to 10 business days.”

When I emailed them with my question, the response was to list the courses in the Comments section at the end since the courses I reported were neither a-g nor from 12th grade. It was a bit tricky due to the 500 character limit, but I made it work. And I had to report my 12th grade classes too, in the normal fields above the Comments section, since I couldn’t submit the form otherwise.

I think the UC system should include a category called “Courses not a-g” or some variant of it in their application to make situations like this less worrisome–but unfortunately, I’m not in charge of that. Haha.

I think I will call them again tommorow because I want to make sure whether just sending the email is enough or should I also report them on the website. I do not want to screw this up because I really want to go there.

I was instructed to use the actual form, so yeah, that sounds like a good idea to check.

If you don’t have any bad grades to mention and if you did not switch classes due to bad grades, then the changes you reported might not necessarily change the offer of admission. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself . . .

I really hope they don’t! I said I was going to take two dual enrollment classes spring semester and I have since picked different classes from what I put on my app. Hopefully they don’t rescind me!!

@Theinstigator: Did you tell them that you picked different classes? Whatever the reason for the change, as long as you tell them, it shouldn’t be a problem. Of course, if you had a bad grade like a C, they’ll probably try to work something out with you.

I picked different classes because the ones I said I’d take filled up before I registered. I reported this to UCLA so I don’t think it’ll be an issue. I didn’t get any bad grades either, straight A’s.

@ljohal1795 and Theinstigator: Well, when you do get a response, please report back on this thread! Although since we submitted our changes around the same time, we might find out around the same time too . . .

EDIT: Instead of seeing the acceptance letter when I log into the decision site, I am greeted by this message:

“We received your recent communication regarding changes to your academic information [which I submitted 3 days ago on April 1st] and are currently reviewing your record. Upon completion, we will contact you to inform you of any status changes.”

Hey guys, just heard back from UCLA and I’m still IN!!!

Here’s the e-mail:
Dear Theinstigator,

We have received your recent inquiry concerning your admission to UCLA ( You dropped Spanish II at Broward College). Based on your self-reported information your eligibility will not be affected by these changes. Your admissions decisions still stands.

Please remember to submit your final transcripts by July 1, 2013. And please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

That must be great news for you, Theinstigator!

Just wondering, on what date did you report your class changes to UCLA? (trying to estimate when they’ll respond to my notification)

I reported the changes on Monday so it’s only been 5 days.

I put a community college class I attended as 3 units instead of 2, which it was (the app would not accept 2 units for some reason)
I have fulfilled my art requirements through high school anyway.
Do you think this will affect my admission? Should I report it?? Please help!!

@Theinstigator: I reported my changes on Monday as well, but the only thing I’ve gotten is the “we are reviewing” message I mentioned in a previous post. I hope that doesn’t mean anything unusual . . .

@caligal99: That shouldn’t be a problem. You could just tell them of the correction so that it will match your transcripts.

@alwaysawrite I wouldn’t worry, my problem was very, very minor so that’s why it went so quick.

Hey,
I just came back here to check whether you also got a different response where it used to be the acceptance letter. Mine is the same as yours. Have you heard anything back yet?
