Reporting SAT II's

I'm hoping someone will have the answer to a question I was asked, but was unsure of.

If you took SAT II's in December but have not yet rec'd the scores, is it better to wait until the scores come in before submitting your application, or submit your application now and let your college board test report catch up to the rest of your paperwork?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

CollegeBoard used to let SAT takers see their scores and decide whether or not to withhold them. CollegeBoard now forces students to send ALL scores including SAT I and SAT II's. There is still a loophole for all you schemers...apply to your schools and send them one score report. If you plan on taking an SAT AFTER you have applied...DO NOT send the score reports to the college again! Wait to see what your scores are and then decide whether or not to send the scores. If the scores go up...great send them...if not...keep it on the down-low. BTW, CollegeBoard doesn't automatically update colleges with SAT scores unless you pay $9.50 for another score report.

So to answer your question, Vistany, don't submit the scores until you see them.

P.S. The University of Virginia has a January 31 deadline for submitting SAT scores.

Thanks for the quick response jask925.

I have heard the advice about submitting only one score report at a time which is smart. But the UVa application has an area that specifically asks if you have taken or will take any additional SATII's and that has to be answered. Once you insert the test date doesn't it seem logical that they would be looking for the additional score report?

Let's assume for the sake of discussion you did poorly on that last SATII, do you think the adcoms would a)find it strange b) assume you did poorly and don't want to report it or c) think you are too lazy to close the loop on your test reports?

This is new to me. January 31st is a bit late. Students need their documents in by January 2nd and counselors/teachers need to have their documents in by January 10th.

WAIT I'm confused...

I took the SAT in May and sent those to UVA. Then I took it again in October and also sent those to UVA. I am also taking 2 subject tests in January...will those scores be on the score reports? Or will UVA receive 3 separate score reports??

UVa will receive 3 different score reports.

Dean J, can you please clarify the January 31 deadline? I have seen it on collegeboard.com several times but it seems very incorrect to me. I know that there is a Jan 2 deadline for standardized testing but UVa will accept January scores. However, the January 26 test results don't come out until mid-february...?

Scores come electronically (unless you rush them, which is actually slower, so we say we don't take them), so your record just gets updated each time new scores are sent.

Many common college search websites have out of date info on them in general. Regardless of getting notified by us, there is one website that still say we required the SAT IIs and that we have early decision.

The best source for info on all of your schools are those schools themselves. If in doubt, you can always give a call and verify info.

Sorry, I didn't clarify. UVa will get a score report everytime you send the scores and they will use the most up-to-date scores. Dean J is correct in stating that the scores will be updated.

I was just making the distinction that you have to update scores (instead of sending 1 score report and having CollegeBoard update it automatically).
