Does anyone know if you can report your SAT scores more than once to National Merit? If you have already taken the SAT and have a decent score and have it sent to them and then you take the SAT in Nov. or Dec. (which are the two last dates they allow for the competition)and then get a better score, will they allow you to "update" your score by sending them the new, higher score? My concern is that the first score you report will be recorded in your "file", or whatever they call it at National Merit, and they may fail to update it with the new one. Anyone been through this process before and know the answer? THANKS in advance for your help!

I thought that National Merit was only PSAT

LoPro, if your score was good, like higher than 2100, you can just send that now and be done with. Or you can wait and send it when you take the Nov. or Dec. SAT since those scores are still acceptable. But just make sure to send it. On the other hand, I do not think it will hurt you to send them twice either.

Thanks leungpy1!

dtran09 - In order to advance to NM Finalist status, you have to send in your SAT score as sort of a confirmation that your PSAT wasn't a fluke. That's what leungpy1 and LoPro are talking about.

LoPro - You might want to call the NM people and/or send them a letter if you do send a second SAT score, just to be sure they add it to your file. You can also send a letter like that to individual colleges if you send them an updated score. It's a nice way to make additional contact and also highlight a good score.

Are international students eligible for NM?

No, only American citizen or permanent resident or someone in the process of becoming an permanent resident of this country is eligible for NM.
