Reporting Scores

I have tooken the ACT twice and the SAT once. My ACT score is decent, but my SAT score is below average at one of my reach schools. Even though I'm retaking it in November, do I have to report the first SAT score? Or can I wait and see if I improve it "to my likeing" and then send it to the college? Am I allowed to leave out a test score I have taken? Or will leaving it out hurt me and my application?

well when u send ur scores to colleges they will see every SAT score u got if u send them any SAT scores. (the only exception being if u challenged a score based on enviromental circumstnaces), but honestly dont worry about it too much look at it this way if u score better the second time its improvment right?

Take the ACT every time its offered at least thats what im doing cause then u can just pick which ones u want to send.

If you chose to rely on the ACT you can do that. There is no college that I know of that requires applicants to send or report all scores. They say "we require either the SAT or the ACT" -- not "send the results of all SAT and ACT testing you have done."

kevinhaspockets is correct about the score choice angle -- ACT having it and SAT, not.

Your counselor is the person who submits the scores. If you would like to submit your ACT scores but wait on the SAT scores, it is entirely possible. I know that there is a procedure in which you can tell them you are going to send in your scores as soon as you take your test but your counselor would know more about it. You don't even have to fill in the form on the SAT that says they will send the scores to your college, just in case that one is even lower than the previous one. I'm pretty sure the counselor just informs them the SAT scores will come as soon as you recieve them. And of course while they are waiting on them, they have the ACT scores to look at.

Do not apply to college as a complete optimist, when schools say they require SAT I and ACT, that means that they want both scores. And your chances are most likely better if you send the SAT as well as the ACT scores. If you're really not very into sending your SAT scores to the reach college, just make sure they only require you to send in one of the two standardized tests.

No college wants both SAT I and ACT scores - it's one or the other, though some may want SAT II's and the ACT if you don't take the SAT I.

The colleges will want official score reports on your standardized tests. With ACT you can ask them to send only your highest score. With the SAT the score report will show every SAT test you took, both SAT I and all SAT II's. You cannot pick and choose for any SAT's.

Your counselor may submit your scores, but technically your counselor should not do this unless you request it. At some high schools your scores are on your transcript. I requested that the school remove the scores from the transcripts, as it is the student's score and really has nothing to do with the high school transcript. Then you can submit your scores when you want.

My boys never identified any colleges when they took the tests. Once they have determined which colleges they want to apply to, then request that the official score report be sent. This will ensure that your latest (and hopefully best) score will be in front of the admissions office when they begin to review your file.

"Your counselor is the person who submits the scores."

Not always true. At my school, our scores are not on our transcripts and the counselors don't send them either. We are completely responsible for submitting our own scores through the college board.
