Hi everyone. I applied to CAS and I'm sending my ACT and SAT IIs. I've seen a few posts on CC about the whole confusion about sending ACT and SAT IIs scores but not having to send SAT I. I'm really confused, so I wanted to ask for myself. My ACT is far better than my SAT I, but if I am sending my SAT IIs, will I be forced to send my SAT I as well? It doesn't make sense since I'm sending my ACT instead of the SAT 1. Also I'm aware Cornell doesn't participate in Score Choice, but I thought that only applied to the SAT I. Does this mean that I can choose which SAT II scores I want to send or do I have to send all of them? Thanks all answers are appreciated.

From the Collegeboard’s website:

Depending on your interpretation, you won’t use score choice if you send no SAT scores and don’t break up subject tests. So as long as you don’t break up subject tests, you should be okay not sending any SAT scores because you are not choosing what to send (as you are sending none). Sending no scores is not score choice in my interpretation of the statement, but people will have different interpretations.

You should be fine sending and ACT + SAT II because most schools allow you to choose what SAT II’s you send and are usually not associated with score choice usage anyway.

that’s what i thought, but i’m not sure because i’ve seen so many contradicting statements here on CC. thanks

No, you can’t. You will need to send all of your SAT scores, SAT I and all of your SAT IIs. Now, you may want to try by just selecting SAT II scores, see if a warning sign pops up.

but if they ask for act or sat and i chose act, why do i have to send my sat 1 score as well?

It is one of those strange things. Cornell does claim it will look at your highest scores, but if a score is in front of them, it would be hard for them to ignore it. We thought of having our daughter take ACT also to see if she could do better, but when we realized that she would have to send in her SAT I score, she didn’t bother.

i see…well thanks…it makes no sense whatever, but i can accept it :)

Seeing that Cornell does not use subject tests for all majors, just call them up. It’s possible that Cornell is one of those schools that allows you to choose what subject tests you send and it has nothing to do with score choice (I called for several colleges when I applied and subject tests never applied to score choice for most of them: they often said that you could send whatever subject tests you wanted).

With the interpretations, really, you can do either. It’s not clear unless you directly ask them.

As an applicant to the college of agriculture/life sciences, the grid says that students are required to send in the ACT or SAT and recommends a math and science SAT subject test. I was confused because like you said they later state that all SATs are required. I called the admission office and she said that it would be fine if I just sent in my ACT even if I took multiple SATS. Also, I think I’m just going to send in my math and science SAT subject tests because for one, they aren’t even required and additionally, my history SAT subject test was pretty bad. They don’t need to see that!

I would be very surprised if you could not send only the SAT IIs you want to send by using score choice.

You could, except when you do that there is a warning sign which pops up to say that Cornell does not participate in score choice.

Ok. So question is, is it an issue if you are sending ACTs? Appletrees was not clear about what admissions would think of sending ACT and SAT IIs only, if also took SAT I.
