That’s been argued to death on here already. I’m not interested in a thread on that topic.

It was a question not a statement.

"Do you think the government should have the power to decide what food I buy**?**

Also since you two seem to be arguing from different premises you aren’t gonna get very far.

And I pointed out that it already does. If that isn’t good enough for you, then sure, I don’t mind the tyrannical oppression of disease.

Actually, it doesn’t. It only decides what people can sell and call food.

You can buy and eat whatever you want, except illegal drugs.

Do you think that the government should have the power to mandate certain menus that everyone must buy?

How did this thread get derailed so fast?!?
Guys, if you want to argue/debate/discuss/kill each other, be my guests. Just do it in a separate thread please. Maybe I’m overstepping my nonexistent authority but I thought this thread was about the absurdness of Republicans or the biased reactions?
Nevermind, I have no idea why I’m even bothering. Jeez, HSL CC is so addictive! Can’t stop typing…must…lift…finger…now.

^In HSL no thread remains on the same topic for more than three pages.

Fine. I don’t see anything wrong with that power, other than its being utterly void of utility.

It’s so easy to rip republicans when they pull stuff out of their ass and state it as fact. Want a fact? In a 2009 poll, 86.2% of Canadians strongly supported their health care system. Must be such a god damn mess right?

Whoever used the anecdote of their Japanese friend coming here for health care, I find this mildly difficult to believe.

A. Health care here is ridiculously expensive, you must have very wealthy Japanese friends indeed to be worth the trip over. It’s not to say that you cannot find excellent doctors in America; however, to see these doctors is no longer affordable for the average American.
B. The Japanese have the longest (or one of the longest) average life spans in the world—longer than the US anyways. Although this can be attributed to some degree to genetics and diet, their focus on health is undeniable—something that America certainly lacks.

^ They aren’t racially Japanese, so there’s probably a cultural aspect as well. It was just an example. Being missionaries, they definitely aren’t wealthy. :P

America has better healthcare than any other country, it’s just expensive due to the ridiculous expectations of perfection that we have of it.

Ok then, I guess this is where we have a basic difference in ideologies. I believe in freedom, as in “there are things that the government isn’t allowed to make you do,” and you don’t.

On a slightly random note, what do you mean by ‘major operations’?

^ Heart work.
