For some reason whenever I talk to people about Wake Forest they either say "what the hell is that" or "why would you want to go there?" My mom says "Sure Wake forest might be good, but when it comes to good jobs ppl arent gonna be looking at Wake Forest grads."

What people say disappoints me. Please give feedback.

I 100% diasagree. People who say that are ignorant people. Sure, Wake is not on the level of Harvard or Yale in terms of reputation. However, the people who don't know what Wake Forest is or don't know the caliber of school it is, should not be talking because they obviously do not have the knowledge of colleges to be making such judgements. I have heard nothing but positive things about our alumni. In an nutshell, be wary of the "average" persons perceptions of colleges, because you can be sure that graduate schools/future employers will know what a fine institution Wake is.

I'm from Georgia, and the response after I tell someone I'm going to Wake is.. "Wow that is awesome. That is such a great school!" For example, some random owner of a store stopped me one day when I was wearing my Wake hoodie. I had never met the man before, and he sat there and talked to me for fifteen minutes about how awesome Wake was and how great of a reputation it has in the business world. He went on to tell me that his daughter went to Georgetown and blah blah blah Wake had just a great reputation.

The only people that have ever told me that they didn't know what Wake Forest was were college students from like Texas. Of course when I told them Tim Duncan went to Wake, they were all for it. But.. honestly if I mentioned Rice (which has an unbelievable reputation) to people, a lot would probably respond like huh? Rice..what's that?

This is just a random tidbit. My doctor's daughter went to Wake Forest. Last year she graduated number one in her class at a renowned medical school. My doctor is fully convinced that Wake is 95% of the reason she graduated at the top of her class. That says a lot!

I got the same kind of response when I told people at home I was going to Wake Forest. (I live internationally) Even some of my teachers seemed disappointed that I wasn't going to an Ivy or some name-brand school. There's more to a school than it's name or how many people can recognize it. I also don't think anyone should be too concerned with what other people think about your school. Most people don't know all that much about colleges anyway so I wouldn't trust their judgment.

I actually think people do look at Wake grads for good jobs. People I've talked to say it has "silent power". My older brother graduated from Wake a few years ago and got an amazing job straight out of school as did many of his friends. Employers and graduate schools do recognize that Wake is a good school. That's the important thing.
