Reputation?

I live on the West Coast, so most people out here are unfamiliar with the university.

That said, does QU have a strong academic reputation on the east coast? Specifically, is the journalism/communications program well regarded?

As a born and bred Connecticut Yankee, Quinnipiac's reputation has been growing in the past 10 years. My S and I just attended an info session and tour today and we were very impressed. The Journalism/Comm program is very well regarded and the facilities are incredible. Many students intern at ESPN, the YES network and even the high profile networks in New York City. My S is not thinking of majoring in Comm. but after seeing the on-campus TV studio he may change his mind.
world changer --- have you been to Quinnipiac's campus? It is very beautiful and growing rapidly.
Hope this helps!!

My son graduated from Quinnipiac schoool of communications last year and was hired a month later at Arts and entertainment television and now works at the history channel. Quinnipiac is well respected and continues to grow. The only down side to Quinnipiac is the lack of dorms. All seniors have to find housing off campus.

Oreoegirl14--when we were at the info session we were told that the class of 2012 will have on campus housing all fours years.

If you are looking for aid, this is not good choice. They meet only 66% of need. This school gave my son a really bad financial aid package. It is a shame b/c we all liked this school. World changer, you might get a better package b/c they probably would welcome some geographic diversity.

momsworried, So glad the school has finally done something about the dorm situation. I understand new dorms are almost completed for juniors.. It is nice to know students will have more housing options. Quinnipiac has been known to convert study lounges into dorm rooms with 6 plus students.

its a beautiful campus and has some great programs, particularly health sciences. communications is also solid, and they have a decent law school. I'm glad to hear they're working on their housing issues- it would have been a perfect fit for my sister but she was turned off by the housing crunch (4 students in a room meant for 2-3).
20 minutes from downtown new haven.
most people i know who have gone there have loved it.

I live in Texas and I've heard of the journalism department at Quinnipiac.

Just to clear this up for QU, the freshmen dorms that house 3-4 people are rooms that were designed for that number of students. The rooms with four people are relatively large quads and were never meant to be for only 2-3 people. I personally loved this style of living because it allowed me to meet a lot more people than I would have in a single or double room. There is a bit of a housing crunch on campus, but I do think this will improve within the next year or two. I would not be too concerned if I were an incoming freshmen.

My S is the type of person who would not want to live with 3 other people in one room. It is a shame that QU doesn't have any traditional doubles for those who don't like 4 to a room.

not really

I live in CT, and if I did not live so close to QU I probably would never have heard of it.

Im a current student at QU and would not recomend it for business majors at all. There is a lack of food choice with only one cafeteria and "the Rat" which fails to meet many required health codes from my point of view. Also someone mentioned that everyone likes it above... Well the numbers prove you wrong, look at the retention rate its in the 80's... that is undescribably bad. I will not be returning for my sophmore year as well. This is coming froman honors student so i guess i have it better that the other 98% and still dislike it. Of course my opinion is my opinion and is from a business student's perspective. (this is only a few of my dislikes, i don;t want to turn people away so i will stop here)
