req. texts to buy for NutriSci 10?

online it lists...

-Required: "Science of Nutrition w/Diet Analysis & Nutrition Lab" - $126

-Recommended: "Science of Nutrition" - $66
"Access Kit (MyNutritionLab & MyDietAnalysis)" - $57.25

-Suggested by bookstore: "Nutrition Barchart" - $4.95

are they all necessary to buy?

Nah, you dont need the books, except for the group presentation, but you can always get the information online anyways.

yea im wonderin the samething do u need the science of nut. with mydietlab or w.e or just the science of nutrition textbook alone cuz its a difference of 60ish dollars between the 2 packages

im selling my stuff =)

I e-mailed professor Amy because I was going to purchase the book already. Here is our correspondence:

"Good morning Professor Amy,

I'm going to be taking your Nutri Sci and Toxicology 10 class this
semester and am getting ready to purchase the books for the class.
However, I have one question, must I purchase the MyNutritionLab &
MyDietAnalysis Access Kit, or is the book by itself just fine?

-berkeleyLATiNA"

Response:

"Dear berkeleyLATiNA, You need the Access Kit. It has the diet analysis program, all the homework assignments, and an online version of the book. All the grades are reported by the Access Kit website."

So there you go. :)

Oh which reminds me, I bought the book in like new condition with the access kit. However, only one person can use the access kit, so basically everyone has to get their own, no reuses.

BUT, I have found that if you get the login name and password of the person who registered it, you can login and change their account information to match your name, e-mail, etc., and you can register for the class without having to purchase a new access code because it is the same class.

The creators of CourseCompass figure that you are retaking the class or moved sections or something, that is why this can be done. Just make sure you get the person's login name and password. Otherwise you will be screwed! Like me, lol.

*Please not I have not done this myself because I realized that I needed the login name and password a bit too late. But from reading the FAQ's and manual AND watching the tutorial, I am pretty sure it can be done.

Oh yeah, and the access KIT will cost you 50 something at the bookstore, but the access CODE by itself will cost you $25 off coursecompass.com. So if you can get the kit for cheapies, say $5 - $15, and cannot reuse it, you can still just get the access code for $25, and you still spend less than buying the whole kit at the bookstore.

Hope this helped. Sorry about the length!

Update to my last post: I got the login name and password of the person who used to own the mynutritionlab access kit, and you CAN reuse it!

However, you cannot change the name of the person to whom the kit is registered to. So my profile says:

Name: Some Guy
E-mail: me@berkeley.edu
and so on...

Don't know if the professor will be okay with this but ummm, I guess it's worth a shot, right?

You do know that there are campus computers with the program already loaded, so you dont actually have to buy anything for the class, just go to a computer lap and do what you have to do with the program there.

dont buy the textbook -- you won't read it.

buy the access kit and it has an online version of the book.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to buy the access kit yourself, since its also used for posting grades, etc. and i doubt your GSI would be okay with posting your grade to an account registered in someone else's name.

miemie was so right... if only i had waited to purchase the book :/

does anyone know the difference between the online edition and print edition of the book?

same thing probably, just on web instead of on paper.

okay, so i signed up my access code thru directcompass instead of mynutritionlab... I cant seem to get access to the ebook. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

i personally found the online version a bit convoluted and slightly difficult to navigate; certain tables weren't there and page numbers did not match the ones in the text when the gsi assigned certain pages for us to look at.

Hey how much material has been covered in the class already? I’m doing some schedule changing and am considering adding it… would it be really hard to catch up? If I add it I’ll take it P/NP.
