Request for Insight- UMD's Admissions & Internship Program

I'm a rising HS Senior in CT and I'm wondering what my channces are for admission to UD in the Fall of 2011; details are as folllow:
GPA: 3.5
SAT's: Reading 720; Math 620, Writing 710.
Several AP courses; Scored 4 on AP-Biology test & 5 on AP-History
Eagle Scout-active in program for 6 years
Active in school theater program 3 yrs., incl. lighting designer
Active in church youth program- attended week-long mission trips in Boston, Philly, & NYC.
Have held a part time job since start of Jr. year
Red Cross certified lifeguard

I'd also like to learn about UMD's internship program. I'm very intetrested in interning, to the extent that the strength of a schools' interning program will be one of the key factors in my decision on where I attend (..provided I"m accepted of course). Other schools in the Washington, DC area I'm considering (American, GWU) crow about the extent and richness of their internship programs, and I'd like to learn aboutr UMD's program.

I've heard really good things about UMD and I'm considering making the investment to visit the campus but I'm not sure where I stand; any insight from people would be appreciated.

You have very strong stats and have a great chance. If you could get your Math SAT over 700, you’d have a better chance at Honors or getting some merit $$ (but probably not enough to make too much of a dent in the OOS tuition).

What do you want to study? There are internship opportunities available in many fields. Obviously, with the proximity to DC, there are a ton of government-related opportunies, but it really depends on what you want to do.

Thanks, astrophysicsmom.
I’m interested in becoming a Physician’s Assistant which’d put me on some kind of a health sciences or pre-medical curriculum in my undergrad studies… but, I have to admit that the higher-level and AP history classes I’ve taken have given me the “bug” to explore political science or some kind of government-related undergrad experiencs as well. I love that stuff!

Our DS interned on Capital Hill last yr and it was an enlightening experience for him. To apply for internships, you need to think ahead of the game. For example, if you want a Fall internship, you start applying in Feb. If you want a Spring internship you start applying in Sept.
