Hi everyone
is it a good, neutral, or bad sign if I get an email that I should submit letters of recommendation?

It is very difficult to tell because this is the first year that Berkeley has requested recommendations from students. In the past, they, along with other UCs, conducted Augmented Reviews where students in January were requested to send in supplement information along with one letter of recommendation. Students who received this request were usually on the border of accept and reject. However, with this year’s new policy, it is hard to tell.
On the website, UC Berley states they don’t need any letter of recommendation. Since when Berkeley changed policy?
It seems from the stats of the people who have received the invite that it is a good sign. I read somewhere that they would ask 20% to submit. I don’t know if they are asking the very top applicants, but it does seem so.
@YMBA6688; UCB changed their policy this year, but not all applicants have to submit LOR’s, only the applicants that are invited by UCB.
