Should I be concerned? Received request for mid-year grades from University of Southern California (hs had already submitted them). Website notes that they want additional info to consider before final decision.

Stats are:
SAT 1400
SATII 700 Physics, 700 Writing, 700 Math
GAP 3.92.

Acceptance for hs is traditionally very high - 60% acceptance rate.

We find that an applicant's mid-year senior year grades can help us make better admission decisions. These grades can show how applicants handle some of the most challenging courses of their high school career, and they can further illustrate emerging trends in overall performance.

I would believe that requesting mid-year grade reports is probably pretty standard...dont worry...all of you have good enough stats to get into USC, so your ECs will be the deciding factor, not your 2nd semester senior grades.

This doesn't appear to be standard for USC. Their website states that in general they use the grades from 9th, 10th and 11th year for admissions review - they will request 1st semester 12th grade if they feel they need further information to assist in making their decision. On a positive note, since they developed a website to capture this information we are probably in good company and not just a select few.

This happened to all kinds of kids last year at this time that were trying to get into USC. If you can access old USC threads, you will see that most of the applicants spent a lot of time trying to figure out why some were notified for the grades, and why others weren't. Subsequently, they tried to figure out how it related to later being accepted/rejected. I don't think there was any pattern that became clear. Seems as though the office of admissions just needed more info for some applicants.
Good luck to all.

I hope you're right caseyatbat. For some reason I can't even sign into the page where we turn in our midyear reports. It's freaking me out. Anyone else have this problem?

I lost the letter though (doh, sister misplaced), so can anyone answer my original question?

I sent in the report through the website, but it says on the site that a hardcopy has to actually be sent it. Does this mean through my school or could I just send it myself via fax? Im assuming through my school? And either way, is there a sheet that should accompany it?

I sent my Mid-year report in a long time ago and I am positive that there is no sheet that needs to be filled out along with it. Just send in your official transcript (yes, "official" means that it MUST be sent by the school). Good luck!

hey kids. I just got off the phone with USC. They said the applicants who are chosen to give midyears are picked completely randomly! So don't worry. Take a chill pill. We will all get in =)

And to those who couldn't turn it in online, do it over fax or by mail. Instructions are in the letter. Please note, this must be an official transcript, signed by your GC.

Anyway... squirrel, I tried putting in my username for my app, but it didnt work either.
For everyone who has to turn in the midyears, I suggest you do it over fax or mail. It makes it easier. Technology nowadays! =)
