I have requested information (viewbook, application form) from various schools
What are these packages like?
How many schools did you request info from?
How long will it take to arrive (I live in Ireland)?

You’ll get a couple of standardized letters “congratulating” u on your intiative. You’ll get a viewbook and maybe a course catalogue from every school and maybe somethin’ else. Also when u request it you will automatically be sent an application in September. Myself I requested the package from seven schools. The time until it arrives can vary Exeter took almost a month and Lawrenceville only four days (to Sweden) Ireland, not so sure.

It’ll take from a week to a month. Deerfield’s viewbook was the only one that came quickly for me (i live in Canada).

some schools didn’t send their viewbooks at all, or their applications (loomis, i’m looking at you). i’m not sure why this happened, but… :/

yeah Deerfield came the fastest for me to. (>] hehehe dirty joke)

Inquiry packets typically include: Viewbook that glorifies and describes the schol, DVD maybe, FA info, and Application

Haha Rad, you totally won some points for that joke xD

In the packet comes what the people above said. However, make sure you fill out your info correctly on the inquiry. I remember the first time I requested info from L’Ville I filled out what year I would be an incoming student, but I was supposed to fill out what year I’d need the info, so it came, but late…really late. So, yeah, make sure you receive everything you need before you begin applying. :)

I requested information from Deerfield on the 26th of February, and got the viewbook, course booklet and a letter on the 24th of March, so it took them almost a month (but I live in Australia, so thats understandable). I didn’t get application papers or a DVD. I think that is because they haven’t put the 2011 application forms on the website yet so they wouldn’t be able to send them to me.

how many schools did you request info from?
I have requested info from around 20 schools
I will probably only visit around 3-5 but my dad might visit 4-8 without me
should I visit more schools?
when is the best time of year(summer,September,Halloween)?
was there any point asking for so many viewbooks?
I mean are they even helpful?

Our family actually found watching the DVDs really interesting.
Some school websites have video clips that you can access now.
Why would your dad go look at schools without you?

because I am in school in Ireland and I will be doing important exams next year so i cant afford to miss too much school
also my dad is a heart surgeon who is invited to meetings all over the world
this means that he can visit schools while traveling
he can give me an idea of what the school is like and then I can revisit with him during the week long holiday i get during Halloween

@silicon valley mom-
have you ever heard of Webb Schools(Claremont,Ca) or Woodside Priory School(near San Fran)?
do you know any other good boarding schools in California(preferably near a big city)?

Halloween may be a good choice but there may be a break then. September is maybe not so smart since the school has to integrate lots of new students. Not sure but I could imagine that the tour guides, proctors, coaches and teachers are heavily involved in that during september/early october.

there’s school on halloween.

not in Ireland

That is pretty awesome. But I guess you don’t have Thanksgiving…

This year how I did the whole process was:
Interviews: A week in October when we had school off
Essays: Thanksgiving break (1week) and some of Christmas break (2weeks)

If you have a week off, just try to schedule interviews early so you can get two schools a day and those two schools are in the same general area (Groton/Mx, SPS/Exeter, etc.)

should I visit my preliminary schools list first,
then shorten the list of the schools and only apply to them,
then revisit my applied schools and do the interview?

I should I just apply to all my preliminary schools and when I visit them do the interview and everything

Is just visiting the schools to shorten my list important?

I requested viewbooks from 33 schools, just to learn. I then kept narrowing it down as i read more, and came up with a list of schools I wanted to visit. After all of my visits, I came up with a final list of schools I would apply to (7).
