Requesting additional merit scholarship

It will really depend on the school. With younger d, I was able to get her merit award raised $2000 per year by faxing acceptance letter detailing larger merit award at another school that was more of a safety school for her.Even though she had a much higher award at the safety school, the $2000 was helpful and we were able to make the decision to send her there. With older d, I called the one school on her list as she had received merit money from all her acceptances and I was told and quite rudely actually that not to bother sending or writing as they had wanted to give her merit money, she would have received it in the first place. Also with younger d, I did call Boston University for clarification as she met all the criteria described in their paperwork for merit awards and was told that only a certain number of awards were given as many accepted students met that criteria. At the time, they were the most expensive of all the acceptances but had she wanted to go there the most, we would have sent her. Luckily for us, she didn’t really want to go there the most.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to answer my question…

Your feedback is very helpful and I appreciate it…

Correction in my post–I meant “different situation” instead of"different student" twice. And each situation is a different one.

OneinTen, you and your son are in a good place. I think he will get more offers before his deadline for decisions. Have him write admissions in Pace that he really wants to go there and tell them what he has at Temple. Though they are unlikely to meet it exactly–too much differential in starting price points, they may come up with more, and hey, it is possible that they come up big time. You can only let them know that they are a top consideration and what would make the difference. Just make sure the tone is a humble one. Pace has time to think it over, look over the crop of other students and come up with more money if they can and want to do so.

Again congrats in being in such a good place so early in the process.

@cptofthehouse: thanks again for the advise… will follow your recommendation…
