requesting an interview

On the online application, there's a part to "Request an Alumni Interview" but all it has is a check box. The EA deadline for interview requests is October 12...do I have to call the admissions office for an off campus alumni interview (it says that you have to call for an on campus interview), or is checking that box online all that I need to do? It seems kind of sketchy...I'm not submitting the application yet, since it's not due until after the interview request deadline, so I'm not sure how the will see I checked the box?? Confused.

Try emailing your regional counselor to ask what's up with that, you bring up a good point.

Anyway, I think they WILL see it because if you save your application, they might not look at any of it but it IS saved on their server regardless; checking off the box and hitting "save" probably puts a request into the database somewhere regardless of whether the app is submitted or not.

tennisgirl, please post again once you have an answer. This will be helpful to many in your shoes!

I have a meeting with my counselor next week so I think I'm going to ask him about it- last year we had 2 people go to Chicago so I'm sure someone will know. If not, I'll email my regional admissions counselor.

I'm pretty sure that all you have to do is check the box. Maybe around 95 percent sure.

I was wondering that as well, but reading the uncommon blog cleared things up for me.

All you have to do is check the box. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll give them a call later in the month

While we are on the subject of interviews, I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with an interview with the University of Chicago, and might want to share? I think I'm going to do an interview, but I'm nervous to check the box on the application since I really have no experience with college interviews, and was hoping I could find out a bit more before I request one.

Thank you!

Interviews are not designed to be intimidating-- I've been on them for Chicago and other schools, my friends and other applicants have been on them, my mom for a very long time did them for her alma mater.

The interviewer will ask you questions about yourself and your high school and what you like to do. It's okay if you're shy, nervous, and a tad awkward-- most of us feel like we are and we tend to exaggerate the way we think others perceive us. My mom said the ONLY real turn-off she had in college interviews was when candidates were not dressed appropriately (i.e. low-cut tops for girls, ripped jeans, etc.) or when they said something like, "I hate school!"

Thank you, unalove! I'm going to request an interview. I mean I've done interviews before, like for an internship, I'm just nervous mostly because I really REALLY want to go to the University of Chicago. :)

the excerpt below is in the 'request an alumni interview' option on the e-application. perhaps they just added it in.

"Your interview request will be processed when you check the box above and click "Save and Continue" at the bottom of this page. Within a few days, you will receive an email confirming your request. You do not need to submit your application for your interview request to be processed."

and

"Early Action Applicants: Requests must be made by October 12, 2007. If you are an Early Action candidate and have not heard from your alumni interviewer by October 18, 2007, please email us at [email address deleted to prevent spamming - go look up the admissions website]."

Has anybody heard anything back about an interview yet?

^ Nope...

10chars.

My regional counselor is actually coming to my school all the way in California. Actually I think it's Libby Pearson. Next Wednesday. So I can ask and find out.

My friend had an interview on campus. They ask the usual questions, but also some quirky ones (typical) that are hard to think of on the spot =/
