My son filled out his housing form and requested two different housing areas (North and South) and asked for suites in both. Since he is probably unlikely to get a suite, will they then default to another type of room in the same housing area first, or will they move to the next housing area?

(I wonder if anyone really knows the answer to this!)

well, North is all suites, so that won’t change. South just has regular rooms. I actually requested those two areas also, and at first put suites for both too. I went back and changed it though, just in case they actually do skip over the request and move on to the next housing area.

Is it even worth spending a housing spot on West, or is it just too hard for freshmen to get in there? That would be my first choice, but if I have almost zero chance I might as well choose one I’m likely to get in.

Hmm…if there are no suites in South, then why do they even give you the option of choosing them after you have selected South?

I think they give you the same options for each housing area, even though they all don’t have the same types of rooms.

Suites do exist in South, but only in Atherton and possibly McElwain. Since Atherton is honors, upperclassmen with advance honors contracts get priority, so you won’t get them there, and I don’t know if McElwain is only for upperclass students. There are quite a few freshmen living in North though, and those are all suites.

My guess would be that they just default to a regular double if you don’t get a suite.
