Required Courses at Vandy

After taking his French exam tomorrow, he will have finished his freshman year.

Probably not … exams are canceled tomorrow due to flooding in Music City.

Au contrare! (I hope that’s spelled correctly. I took Latin and Spanish, not French!) After a general e-mail that exams would be cancelled, his TA e-mailed him at about 7:45 his time that they would proceed with the exam at the same time and same place tomorrow. McCarty says in his letter on the vandy website:

“If a given faculty member and his or her students can go forward with the exam as scheduled, I trust them to make that decision.”

He SAYS he is about to start studying…

I think my D would flip if she suddenly received an email saying, “Hey, by the way, make sure you come in for your exam tomorrow” after being told they were called off! She has been studying all weekend so would be ready … but she’d be mad that she might have missed the “it’s on” email. Hope that prof makes sure everyone got his notification …

Whoops … spoke too soon. D just texted to say one prof is having their final tomorrow anyway, and she is fine with that. Another is rescheduled for Tuesday. The third won’t happen at all, which she thinks is terrific (although I suppose if she needed a good grade on the final to pull off a good grade in the class she might feel differently!).

S heard that some professors have cancelled today’s exams outright and will either use current average up to now as final grade or will double count midterm exam grade, which, as kelsmom said is fine if you weren’t trying to improve your grade with the final.

I would imagine any prof’s who are taking the total cancellation route would be sensitive to those who may have not done so well early but showed better results later, particularly if a student contacted the prof and spoke with them.

My D’s Monday final was cancelled and she is able to take her current average as her final grade. She said that she has an 88 (B +) and is confident that she would not be able to raise her grade to an A. So now she just has one final to go.

For those of you who have children who are driving and not flying home, please encourage them to come home as soon as they can. We are on really strict water conservation measures in Nashville and please tell them to not do laundry before coming home! The mayor and governor are asking Davidson county residents to restrict water use to drinking and cooking and are asking us to not do laundry or use our dishwashers. College students need to go home asap!
