required coursework?

i've been looking at schools for my brothers and i can't seem to find the required coursework for transfers (if there is any) for the following schools:

vanderbilt
emory
dartmouth
northwestern
brown
rice

if anyone has applied to these schools and knows about required coursework, please let me know where to find that information. thanks! :)

You need to contact each school individually and speak to an transfer admission advisor regarding college courswork. Each required college coursework is different for each school and it varies by the graduation requirements and as well as area of study. For Brown University, their required coursework is not listed on their website, so you need to call them (they do not corrensponse by email) and speak to an undergraduate admission advisor for transfer admission regarding transfer coursework. As, for Vanderbilt, Emory, Darmouth, Northwestern, and Rice, you need to email or call them regarding the required coursework. Check their website. And, if the required coursework is not there on their website or if you are unable to find it, then call or email the schools to speak to an advisor!

Ironically, if I remember correctly, Dartmouth, Northwestern and Brown had no “required” courses. It made it actually quite simple, as you did not have to juggle around your schedule, taking courses in the hypothetical situation you were accepted to each school. The only school off the top of my head that I can remember having some sort of requirement was Notre Dame. If memory serves me correctly, you needed to have the majority of their “core” completed before you transfer in. Hence, why I did not bother applying to the Irish :-p

I’m not sure about the other schools - but I’d be surprised if Vandy or Emory had any requirements.

What stewartudall said goes for most colleges; most don’t have ‘required’ courses to transfer in. This is mainly because most students don’t go in planning to transfer, and therefore take whichever classes they want. Think about it: if every college decided they had ‘course requirements’, it would be virtually impossible for a lot of people to transfer. It’s not like high school where you had four years to look up every college and plan accordingly.

On a side note, you may want to check WHICH courses will transfer and what they will count for. My roommate last year was a transfer and a lot of her classes transfered as just “general elective” courses. I’d check with an academic advisor at each school about that.

^ TITCR - Don’t expect ALL courses within your major to transfer in as “major” credit - I would say you can expect about three or four to transfer for major credit - the rest, ideally, will be categorized in the general elective fields. Most schools require the majority of major course work to be done at their school.

i figured as much. cornell’s their top choice so i guess they’ll focus on those required courses and then just hope that the rest of the schools agree haha. thanks

wouldn’t one need to take the basic courses (english, maths, social sciences, science, etc.) to transfer? what’s all this talk about “required” courses?

just wondering bc i’m looking to transfer
and i already made my schedule…:|

some schools, like cornell, have courses that they ask you to take before you apply. i don’t know about other schools, but cornell gives preference to the students who have already finished these classes
