Required Freshmen Meal Plan

Does anyone know of any examples of them ever making an exception to requiring each freshman to purchase the meal plan? I know that if there were, everyone would probably do it, but I figured it was worth asking. I loathe the dining halls and have no desire to eat in them ever, so it’s absolutely ridiculous to me to pay another $1,300 for a meal plan I will never use. Just wondering if there’s any way for parents to talk to someone, or if they’ll make an exception if someone has diet restrictions that the dining halls don’t accommodate, anything I could do to avoid wasting this money.

I imagine if a person has a dietary restriction that the halls can’t accomodate, then perhaps a waiver could be had.

They can make exceptions for food allergies.

If you are exempt from freshman on campus housing, you’re also exempt from the meal plan.

Do either of you know who the correct person to contact about this would be?

^ Here is a link to the form that you fill out to request an exemption: http://bamadining.ua.edu/information/First-Year-Meal-Plan-Exemption.pdf
