Yes, there's a SAT Subject Test forum but I'm wanting UT specific info because I'm being told over there to take Math 2.

Since most departments require Math 1 and it's the prerequisite for many courses, I signed up for it in May. At one place on the UT site it specifically states most departments require Math 1 but then other pages speak about both 1 and 2. I can't find if Math 2 is a prerequisite for anything or if it will get you into a higher math course, or perhaps it just looks better? Should I take 1 or 2 or does it matter? Maybe what I'm needing clarification on is will the 2 score suffice for the 1 requirement? I hear 2 has a better curve.

I'm a junior and have already taken (all honors) Alg I, Geom, Alg II, and Pre-Calc, and have hs/college hours for College Alg (M401) and Stat (M316). I'll be taking Calc AP next year.

Depending on your proposed major, I don’t believe that UT requires you take the SAT IIs while still in HS. UT uses the scores from SAT IIs and AP exams in order to place you in classes at the university. (When you attend the orientation, you have the option to take the appropriate tests and petition for credit in these courses.)

However, because you have dual credit for M401 and M316 and possibly even more math credit from Calc, I wouldn’t worry too much about the SAT IIs. (Because it will test you out of courses that you have already completed.)

Bottom line, don’t take the SAT IIs while in HS. It’ll be a waste of time and money. (Unless you plan on being a math or engineering major, you have already fulfilled your required math core credits.)

I don’t want to leave them until the last minute when I have sooo many other things going on. I’m thinking get it done now so no worries later. It’s also a prerequisite for freshman Chem and I’m not putting all my eggs into the AP basket.

If you are planning on majoring in engineering, taking either the M1 or the M2 is required. You can take it at orientation before your freshman year at UT, but it is more expensive then. They don’t care which test you take, either one will work. If you are not majoring in engineering, I am not sure it is required.

I haven’t nailed down what I want but something math related and I’ll need it for Chem. I just figure it’s better to have any possible test under my belt just in case rather than having to deal with them later. It’s not like I’ll have to send scores if they’re not needed, right?

You certainly don’t hurt anything by taking it. It seems alot of students get caught at the last minute missing tests and find it hard to get all their scores in. I think you are smart taking it just in case!
