required math classes for university

I’m currently in honors precalc, which will be my fourth high school math class. I need four to graduate, but I’m only a junior so I could take AP calculus or AP stat next year. I really have no interest in math, I hope to go into the field of communications when I get to university, so I was planning on not taking a math my senior year and opening my schedule up to have a free period or a class I’m actually interested in. My friends all say this is a terrible idea and I won’t get in to college without four years of math. Any thoughts? Will I still get in to college without math senior year?

My Son was finished with all required math in 10th grade. He also finished with all of the schools math classes and is currently taking an on line math class. Colleges want to see your rigor and taking more than you need will help you tremendously in getting in, because you didn’t take the easy way out. If math isn’t your thing then I would take Stats over Calc though. Beside chances are that you will get college credit for your math class and that’s one less math class in college you have to take. Good luck.

Having a math course in your senior year will make a difference. Take AP stats. It will be directly applicable to your field…and college admissions officers know that.

Take AP Stats. It’ll be useful in college and yes, not having Math senior year would hurt you for Admissions.
