Does anyone know if the four required phys ed. classes count towards the required 32 classes required for graduation? Thanks.

No, the phys ed classes don't count toward the 32 required academic classes. Students generally take 4 academic classes every semester (a few take 5, but that would be a heavy work load).

Don't worry about completing the phys ed requirements, amongst the offerings are Yoga, Tai Chi, various outdoor camping type activities and lots of other interesting things. You'll probably look forward to going (except maybe the trek cross campus in the snow to get the the Gym).

And... they've abolished the swiming requirement for graduation.

They've already done away with swimming requirement for Class of 2008 and beyond. Additionally, for class of 2010 (that's you) and future, only two gym credits will be required and both can be fulfilled by club sports if desired. Most people get through pretty quickly by doing Outdoor ED- just a few hours over several days commitment rather than 6 week sessions.

I wasn't worried about completing the phys ed. requirement, most of the courses sound pretty fun, I just wanted to know if I'd be getting credit for having fun.

Does Colgate give incoming freshmen credit for college courses that they took while still attending high school?

Yes, but I think this gets reviewed by each department at Colgate on a case-by-case basis. The college courses will probably place you out of intro classes (as does a 4 or 5 on AP exams in most cases).

Don't count on getting out of AP for both government sections grumble grumble

It's definitely case-by-case.
