required rec?

I have a question. UPenn is different from most colleges because it requires recs from Junior/senior teachers only.
1. If I have one freshman teacher I want to include as one of the required letters of rec for all other colleges, but one of the additionall recs for UPenn, how will I do this?
2. Will Common App teacher evaluations be for only 2 teachers so you have to DECIDE which teachers will remain the permanent "required" recommenders?

Thanks!

As a general rule, unless this freshmen teacher knows you way better than anyone else, you don’t want to include a freshmen teacher. Ideally, most schools prefer one from senior+other years, or junior year. If you ask adcoms which year is best, most say junior. Sometimes when apps start you’ve only known your senior teacher a month or two. That’s not long enough for most people to develop a strong relationship. If you had a teacher senior and freshman year or senior and sophomore year then it’s different because they know you well.

The problem with freshman year teachers is that they don’t know you. Maybe they did when you were a freshmen, but you’ve changed. You’ve had four years to grow, experience things, and mature. The colleges want to know who you are now, not four years ago.

I’d be careful about sending a freshman teacher as a rec for the other schools. UPenn said it directly, but other colleges prefer junior/senior teachers as well.

You can have a number of different teacher recs on Common App. & designate different recs for different colleges if you like.

Ok thanks csdad!
And Lagging, my freshman teacher knows me VERY well. She is like one of my close friends I still visit and chat with frequently :)
