Required SAT Subject Tests

I'm a Literature, Spanish, History sort of guy. I'm in no way interested in mathematics or the hard sciences, and will probably end up majoring in Political Science or something of the sort. I've heard that even though I'm not going to major in math or science, I'm still REQUIRED to send an SAT II Math I score to some colleges (not MIT or anything, just like HYPS and stuff). I don't think that's true, all I can find in the literature that schools give involves doing only 3 random SAT IIs. I'm doing Spanish, American History, and Literature, and have already done World History and Spanish. (In case you're wondering, I got a 520 in Spanish without studying, which is why I'm retaking it. I got a 690 in World History.)
Firstly, are the rumors true? Do I HAVE to take math?
Secondly, if not, are my SAT IIs sufficient for most schools?
Thirdly, just out of curiosity, is a 690 in WH a good enough score?

If the websites for the colleges you're applying to don't say that you must take a math SAT II, then you don't have to. Some "recommend" it, which often means you should take it. But if all they say is "different subject areas", no math is necessary. Your list has three in different subject areas, so you should be fine.

HYP require any 3, while Stanford 'strongly recommends' Math II + one other SAT II. You do not HAVE to take math, just like you don't have to write the optional essays or submit additional credentials. Just because you don't have to doesn't mean it's a good idea. I would take it, analyze how I did, and cancel it if needed. A ton more info can be found in the SAT forums.
