Penn says:* "Students applying to the College are encouraged to take a foreign language Subject Test."

"Students interested in science-related fields, and especially applicants to the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Nursing, are encouraged to take a science Subject Test."*

Now, does encouraged mean "required" or does it just mean what it means? There's no way I'll be able to take a foreign language subject test and do well compared to my other scores and, if applying to SEAS, is the biology subject test a sufficient "science" test? Most people that I've seen get in take physics or chemistry.

hm, i'm not completely sure abt that but i do know people who have gotten in without taking any lang sat ii.

Yeah, I have the same question, but it's for sciences. I'm applying to the school of engineering, and Chemistry is not working out for me. I"m getting around mid 600's..and I know it's bad. Should I take it in Oct. and take it again in Nov. or just not take it at all? My AP Chem grade in school is really good (98 or 97) but i didn't take the AP Exam.

Oh yeah, all my science grades in school are good, does that maybe make up?

if u take the ACT with writing u don't have to take any subject tests.
my D is in SEAS this year as a frosh and she only submitted the ACT with writing scores because she didn't want to take any subject tests.

ahh! thanks you just reassured me. so your daughter made it in (congrats.) although she didn't submit subject tests? I know the ACT acts in lieu for two subject tests but like something in the back of my head is telling me to take it to 'boost' my app.
