I think it would be best to start a new Thread on the subject. I had difficulties finding the answers. I got some info that about 120-160 Kelley students would be in the Business Honor Program which probably includes the Kelley Scholars (~10) and Hutton Honor scholars (how many?). Would it be correct to say that there are 100-130 spots left for the 1200 students to compete? I quoted the following from bthomp1:

"I think Kelley has increased the size of business honors to include the higher caliber of students they are getting in the automatic scholarships era."

What are the criteria for getting into the business honor program? Is it solely determined by GPA at the end of the 1st year? Would some students (other than the Kelley scholars) be admitted into the honor program as freshmen? What about those candidates competing for the Kelley Scholars. If that is the case, there may only be 50 spots left for the 1150 students after freshmen year. That is extremely difficult. Please share your insight.

I am not sure what the deal is with the Kelley Scholars, but for everyone else this is how it works:

You apply between Feb. 1st and April 1st of freshman year.

You need a 3.7+ cumulative GPA at the end of your second semester to be considered. If you don’t have above a 3.7 you won’t be looked at. I have been told that as long as you have a 3.8 or higher, your GPA is grouped with the rest of the people with a 3.8+.

They place a fair amount of emphasis on extra-curriculars. You should be involved in 1-2 clubs at a minimum (and they say this online). Last year I was involved in 5 clubs (Civic Leadership Development, Eigenmann Judicial Board, Eigenmann Leadership Council, K201 peer tutor, and a club sport), and this definately gave my application a boost.

You need two letters of recommendation from faculty members. Last year your K201 and X104 instructors automatically gave you 1 letter each (but it would still be best to let them know your are applying for it and tell them a little about yourself). You can print out the form for letters of recommendation online.

You complete a writing sample on a predetermined topic. Last year it was “If you could travel back it time to witness any event in history (i.e. not be able to change it), what would it be and why?” I think the limit was under 500 words, but I might be wrong.

You submit your resume as well. I had never written a resume before this and modeled mine after those in the Investment Banking Workshop. I was very satisfied with it. You can check out their resumes here and clicking the link on the right [The Investment Banking Network at Indiana University: IBA Index](http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ibn/IBW/workshop.cfm) .

I am not sure how many Kelley Scholars there are and if they are automatically in the Business Honors Program, but I know there are 130 students in the program. It is a lot harder to get into than Hutton. There were a lot of Hutton Honors students who were not accepted.

Also, they look at the level of coursework as well as GPA. If you haven’t taken A100 and K201 (the two “weed-out” courses), they will notice. I am not sure how much emphasis they put on coursework, but at the informational meeting last year they mentioned that you can’t take all easy courses.
