Requirements to get into Honors College at semester

I'm entering MSU this fall as a Freshman. I didn't get invited to the Honors college, but would like to end up there.

What goes into the decision making for Freshman to be invited? I see "the Honors College will target the top 10% of first year students in each college." Does that mean all 10% percent get the invite, or are they reviewed more than that? What's a typical GPA cuttoff for top 10%

Do the invited students become members of the college Spring of their freshman year, or Fall of their Sophomore year?

once your in you have to maintain a 3.5 gpa i believe

You have to be in the top 10% of your college. That’s all. In my college, that was a 4.0 -.-

Spring of freshmen year.

Once into the Honors college, is there still flexibility to change majors or colleges for Sophomores?

yeah i’m pretty sure you can change your major once you’re in.

Romani is right, msufan is wrong. If you have any questions about Honors College, pm me!:)

Clarifying a few points -
Once you’re into the honors college you have to maintain a 3.2 GPA (otherwise you will be placed on HC probation the following semester, and if you don’t raise your grades then after that you will be released from HC).

A typical GPA cutoff is probably anywhere from 3.5-4.0 depending on your major (generally: more difficult programs…lower. Easier programs…higher)

You can change your major whenever you want (whether or not you are in the honors college). However, if you want to be in that top 10% after 1st semester don’t change your major officially until you get that HC invitation (because I’m not sure of the logistics in terms of changing colleges).

Another thing - if by chance you don’t get into the honors college, there are honors programs (either within your major or college) that are outside of the honors college (but still give you the honors denomination on your transcript).
