A friend of mine has been accepted into several schools already, but is really worried that some of her acceptances will be rescind. She is taking Anatomy & Physiology/Honors and it is one of the hardest classes in our school. With that said, she has around a C-ish, but is afraid that might've dropped to at least a D+ or D due to a recent test. She had her most difficult schedule this past trimester with mainly honors classes and one AP. Her grades in her other three classes are right on-par with her grades at the beginning of the year and in year's past. However, the Anatomy grade is def. getting her down and so she's really worried that some of her schools will rescind her. She has all of her science requirements and she is NOT planning on majoring in science or math in college. Will one possible D get her rescinded from a school, esp. if it's science-related and she did well in her other classes?

Any thoughts?

She needs to get tutoring and do whatever else she can to get a C. Yes, she can be rescinded if she gets a D or F.

Is it a possibility if it only occurs in one class and the class is two-trimesters (she’ll have 3rd tri. to bring up her grade and Anatomy will be her main focus)?

She needs to get a passing grade for the year – C – to be assured of keeping her admission.

SHE can’t be rescinded, however, her acceptance may be rescinded.

Anyway, a university can rescind an acceptance for any reason they see fit - yes, it’s entirely possible that they can rescind her acceptance for one D/D- in a science class (even if she doesn’t plan on majoring in science). Is it likely? We can’t answer that because we don’t even know where she applied, and most of us are not on admissions committees.

Your friend should do her best to keep the grade at a C or higher - extra tutoring, asking for extra credit or makeup work if the teacher allows it, whatever it takes. But the only way to answer this question is to ask the admissions office about their rescindment policy.

A D is passing in our school, though. But, she understands she will need to pull up that grade, no matter what.

A D is passing in a lot of high schools, yes, but it very rarely counts as passing to colleges.

What amarkov said - D may be passing but won’t be acceptable to a lot of colleges/universities.

It depends on the school’s she’s been accepted to, but a D puts her in pretty serious danger or a rescinded admission. She should work to get it up.
