Rescind Admission?

I got into Gallatin with a 3.85uw gpa - some Bs but mostly As. Right now I'm sitting at 2 Cs, 2 Bs, and 4 As. I'm very confident I can turn at least one if not both Bs into As, but I'm a little concerned about the Cs. I will most likely get one C up, but my Spanish grade really, really sucks right now. Could they rescind over this or put me on academic probation?

Don't worry about the Bs. Worry about the Cs. 2 Cs and you're on thin ice. I doubt they'll rescind though.

I'm not sure what NYU's policy is about rescinding admission...but I've never heard of a school rescinding over C's... just make sure those C's don't go down to D's :)

I am concerned because I got in but I dropped a class... would they rescind over that? It was AP Calculus and w/o it I still have 3 years of honors math and I applied as a comparative literature major.

Any insights?

Here's the official word on rescinding offers of admission:

"Your acceptance to NYU is contingent upon your successful completion of coursework in progress. We review all admitted students' final high school transcripts to ensure this. It is really in your best interest to maintain the high level of academic achievement you've demonstrated so far."

I'm not sure that they would rescind for Cs but do you really want to take the chance? Starting college on academic probation isn't a good thing.

If you've dropped a class, you need to call admissions and let them know, before they get your final transcript with the class missing.

Does anyone know what NYU's rescinding cutoff is exactly? Is it letter-based or is it cum. gpa based?

For any college to rescind your admission is a pretty rare occurrence - the admissions office examines each case individually and very carefully and no there is no "cutoff" but if you feel that your grades are dropping or something then you should take the initiative to contact the admissions office yourself and have a good explanation as opposed to just waiting for them to receive your transcript and then find out during the summer that they have indeed rescinded your admission

I think mattistotle meant to post this in this thread:

"Also one or two C's will not get you rescinded. The general rule of thumb is do not let your gpa drop by more than 1.0 (this is an approximation of course, and actually failing a course can be grounds for rescinding/academic probation). From what I've heard is NYU is much more likely to give you academic probation than actually rescind offer, so you have to screw up really bad to get rescinded. If you are doing bad in a class/have to drop a class, just let NYU know."

Thanks for your replies. I really really hope I'll get the Cs up to Bs, but I'm kind of doing worst case scenario stuff right now.

Also, can/do colleges ever take away a scholarship or remove you from a scholars program because of grades? I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but at the same time I've never heard of them doing that...

Um how bad is bad? And I don't have to worry about a B going to a B- right? OK now I'm being paranoid. Cuz EVERYONE did badly on the final and yeah.

Worst case senario.........

AP euro - B
AP stats - C
spanish - B
AP english - B
Orchestra - A
Gym - B
Business Management - A
Physics - B

My mid-year report: 3.7 unweighted

AP euro - A
AP stats - B
spanish - A
AP english - B
Orchestra - A
Gym - A
Business Management - A
Physics - A

do you guys think I will be rescind? Is this a significant drop in GPA? It's 50% senoritis, 50% my weak health.. I've been sick almost every months this past winter.

someone want to help me out?

i got a D first semester and informed NYu over a month ago... they recieved the letter and admitted me... so just tell them

im sure you'll be fine...C in stat?? i know what that's like!

^

I feel like a dumbass getting a C in stats.. but my teacher is serious a math genius.. he makes everything 10 times harder for us.

haha stressedout what an appropriate username for you! nobody will rescind you over one C! :)

yeah apparently my stat teacher is a genious but he comes off like a dumbass. he couldnt teach me what 2+2= if his life depended on it
