Rescind for 1 D?

So I was accepted into NU for music but because of family problems and severe health issues, my second semester senior grades started pretty low. I have managed to bring up most of my grades, I currently have:
A - Calculus
A - Marine Biology Honors
A - AP English Literature
A - Chamber Choir
But here’s the bad news
D - AP Economics

Will this D get me rescinded? I am so worried! Technically, in my district, a D is still passing but do you have to retake the class over the summer (online?) or can you retake it during the school year? I am freaking out… Please please leave your responses!

One D will not change anything; still, you are better off explaining the personal situation to the admission officer.

It shouldn’t unless your getting all Ds and Cs. One D seems kind of odd with all As so it kind of hints something’s going on. I agree you should be open about it to admissions rather than playing dumb. Your already admitted and every college class for next year is basically set in stone at this pt, so I doubt they’ll threaten to go as far as rescind your admission, but it shows responsibility and maturity to tell them so if you nice and explain you should be fine.

I’d try to get up to a C by the end of the year though if possible just to be safe.

IMHO, if they rescinded then you offer to retake online. My son retook a final grade of a D (an AP course) and got a B, and got into a pretty good college (RPI).

Hopefully you should be okay.

(but honestly, family issues and “severe” medical issues are more than enough to explain one grade slip of many - it sounds like even if you stay a D, you have valid reasons that any college would accept)

Thanks everyone for replying, really means a lot to me, but would the situation change if I also get 1 B? Also, do you think they would let me retake the class during the school year (online or on-campus)?

It sounds extreme for them to rescind. Have you kept your counselor in the loop with what is going on in your personal life? I think that with his or her backing you’ll be much better off. And I’d follow NorthwesternDad’s advice too - get your counselor talking to Northwestern sooner rather than later. Counselors can be hard to track down once you graduate if a question does arise. Good luck - both with school and everything else!

Would it be helpful that I can get a letter from my principal? He’s also been helping me get caught up and he will be willing to write me a letter… its just my teacher that won’t let me retake tests…

Definitely.
