Can previously-awarded Rutgers scholarships, specifically the Presidential Scholarship, be rescinded in the future due to state budget cuts?

I am also curious as to if the presidential could potentially be rescinded. I don’t think that they could do that but…who knows

i don’t think it can…cuz i mean, Rutgers is decently funded enough so that they aren’t hit by the crap economy that much
and also, the scholarship is only based on your continued grades, so if your grades don’t tank then they shouldn’t be able to take away your scholarship ( i believe it’s a 3.0 maintained gpa)
all in all, i think it’s really unlikely for your scholarhip to be rescinded due to anything besides bad academics in college or due to other poor performances in school.

I’m not about whether or not Rutgers can rescind a scholarship for no reason; but for the Presidental Scholarship, you need to maintain a 3.5+ gpa.

Are you sure about the 3.5+ GPA? I am a Presidential Scholar who recently attended a meeting with other presidential scholars and we were talking about how we only had to maintain a 3.0 GPA. My semester GPA has dipped below 3.5 once I haven’t received a warning at all.

I’m not sure if it can be rescinded due to budget cuts though.

Weird, didn’t it say 3.5 in the scholarship letter? Okay, I’m looking at it now and it doesn’t say 3.5.

Well, it helps me study for finals so I’ll just keep believing it. :P

i’m pretty sure there’s no gpa requirement, until you’re actually in Rutgers, after which you’ll have to maintain a certain gpa at Rutgers to keep the scholarship

I got the james dickinson carr scholarship or something for 10k, and the requirement was 3.0, and another person I asked on CC has told me that his grades tanked his senior year but he was given no warning and still kept his presidential scholarship

this is a great question, and i hope that merit scholarships are not revoked. and as for the uni being decently funded, rutgers’ budgets are being cut like crazy, so the future status of merit scholarships is a cause for concern. according to pres. mccormick: [Rutgers: Office of the President - Letters to the University Community](<a href=“Office of President Jonathan Holloway | Rutgers University”>Office of President Jonathan Holloway | Rutgers University), the budget is being cut by 18.5 million dollars, and to add insult to injury, under christie’s budget, rutgers is supposed to absorb thomas edison state college as well.

jiapet: I was referring to the gpa you must maintain while at Rutgers.

The letter sent to this year’s (Fall 2010) Presidential Scholars states that you must maintain a 3.25 GPA at Rutgers in order for the scholarship to renew each year.

I believe the gpa requirement is 3.25 first semester and 3.5 all subsequent semesters

Once they rescind the scholarship due to poor GPA will you automatically get it back once you meet the minimum GPA or do you have to wait till summer to formally request the renewal?

Rutgers is not going to absorb T Edison State College. That stupid idea is over. McCormick didn’t want them & they did not want Rutgers — the misisons of each school are entirely different.

Some idiot in Christie’s transition team though it would be fun if there was a Trenton “branch” of Rutgers and didn’t even realize that TESC is an entirely online school and nnearly all of its students are well over 22 years old.

Same as the Christie idiots that proposed Rutgers should grow the state’s marijuana supply for the medcial marijuana. No thought given for a second to the fact Rutgers receives millions in federal dollars that would be jeopardized by such a move.
