Rescind?

I was recently taken off of a waitlist at an Ivy League school.

However, between April and my acceptance, I dropped physics to free up some time for other subjects, extracurriculars, etc.

My intended major is business and none of my other marks suffered a major decrease. In fact, my physics mark was similar to what it was in the Spring (albeit lower than the others)

I will definitely explain my situation but could this get me rescinded even though I showed no sign of a decrease in any of my other courses?

Just straight up dropped it without informing the school? Uh, I think that’s kind of a no-no. Although I would have to think you would have heard by now…

I’m Canadian so school isn’t over for me yet.

I know it’s a big no-no and I recognize that my dream may have just been shot because of one day’s lack of judgment.

In Canada, only your top 6 marks matter when applying for universities. My plan before being accepted from the waitlist was to go to a Canadian school, where my physics mark wouldn’t have been a factor. I wasn’t accepted in any other American universities, and with getting off the waitlist being so hard, I thought that it would’ve been ok to lighten my work load in my senior year.

I know I was super stupid/immature.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It is very unlikely that they would do anything as long as your other grades didn’t drop too much. If they should ask, just give them a plausible answer. This is a parent speaking.

Thank you oldfort.

This has been a really bad emotional roller coaster for me. I was absolutely shot when I found out that I didn’t get into any of my American schools so I slowly slipped into the mindset of going to a Canadian school.

I don’t know what I’d do if I go from waitlist -> accepted -> rescinded in my only chance to study in the US for undergrad.

Oh, and how did you manage to get off the wait list at an Ivy but not get in anywhere else? Did you not apply to any safety American schools? Obviously you’re pretty smart to get into an Ivy.

My safety were Canadian schools because I needed FA, and American safety schools often did not give need-based FA to internationals.

The tuition is cheaper in Canada so I thought that having Canadian schools such as University of Toronto and McGill as my “safeties” were more economically sound.

Most international students only apply to top tier American schools. Its not worth it for them to go to a second rate American school when they have good options at home.
