I just got accepted into a top tier university ED, but I’m probably planning on quitting some/most of my extracurriculars (hey, if senioritis is gonna hit, at least it would hit the EC’s rather than the grades, right?) Am I in jeopardy of getting rescinded? Do EC’s even matter after you get accepted?
How large a part did ECs play in your overall application and how much would you be leaving people in the lurch if you were to quit? You don’t want your senioritis to negatively impact others.
Can you scale back your involvement without out-and-out quitting? Likewise, you don’t have to get straight As – just don’t drop or flunk any classes (B’s are fine)
The main extracurriculars I’m thinking of quitting are individual activities, and thus the only people I would negatively impact with my senioritis are my coach and my band teacher.
Hypothetically, if one of them were to write a charged letter disapproving of my act of quitting to my college, would my college begin to consider rescinding me?
I guess In that case it is possible. They might want to hear from you.
But if you have coach. There’s probably a team. If there’s a band there’s probably other musicians. If that’s the case of course they all are counting on you. And does that demonstrate the leadership the school saw in you. We’re these ecs simply mechanisms to get into college. That’s fine. Did you talk about them in essays or interviews or supplements. Did you describe your hard work and commitment to others. All are simply artificial and not really who you are as a person.
If none of these are true in any way then go for it. But just remember you are probably a role model for younger students.
If you stated in your application that you did/are doing the EC for all 4 years, you really should continue doing the EC - unless there is a compelling reason not to. Senioritis is not a compelling reason. You owe it to the clubs/organizations/teams that helped you get that admission, especially if people are depending on you. Do not leave high school burning bridges and compromising your character.
You may find the the ED school is not what you thought it would be or three may be a situation where you may need andl to transfer. How will you be able to do this if you choose to scorch the earth?
I don’t think it would matter. At the end of the year they ask for a final transcript of grades, not final letters from coaches saying you completed the year in an extracurricular.
No–quitting courses or changing your courses AND/OR quitting an EC that had a direct impact on admission are the only two things that would impact a review. I know someone who was supported for a sport at a top D3 program and didnt even participate on the team that Spring. Now at the school.
