rescind?

I received the following message from Yale

In reviewing your final high school transcript, we were disappointed to see that your spring term grades declined in all of your academic subjects. Your end-of-year grades were a clear departure from your previous excellent record.

In order for the Admissions Committee to be fully aware of any extenuating circumstances this term, I would like you to send me an explanation of the decline in your grades. You may email me at the address on this email of fax a letter to....
As you know, a condition of your admission, as outlined in the Instructions for Admitted Students, was that you would continue to perform ‘at a level comparable to the one presented to the admissions committee.’ Please carefully consider your response to the question of why you did not meet this expectation.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I had 1 A and 5 B's.

Do I have a serious chance at being rescinded ????

what was your grades before and what are your reasons getting 5 B’s?

The semester before, I had 5 A’s and 1 B+. I missed a lot of school to visit the colleges i was accepted to, and also because of a car accident. furthermore, AP’s were due the next week and some teachers set the deadline for all works very early. Could not recover from that

Just write a letter explaining the situation. You’re being warned by the college, rather than rescinded, though the latter could happen if your reason is not strong enough.

would this be a good excuse? that i didnt have time to make up the missed work from visiting colleges? that I had a car accient, ap exams, and early deadlines by teachers, and lots of essays and projects that were given afterwards?

I’m not sure I would include visiting colleges, maybe just the car crash?

well that led me to miss a ton of work, which some teachers did not let me make them up, and i had 4 A’s and 2 B’s until I missed that. Some even gave Finals right then or right after, during which i actually missed a whole chapter.

OP is getting ■■■■■■■ hard by Yale.

mhm. Man im in such a deep pile of

I don’t know why they would do that. A lot of kids who get accepted to top schools usually end up getting a bunch of B’s the rest of their senior year. They deserve the break. I don’t know why 5’s Bs and an A would be cause for a rescinding.

i know… seriously…

if you do write up your visit, make sure give the date and college you visited, air fare ticket stub and any thing that make your claim real. Of course, the police report on the accident and hospital staying record as well. best of all, if you can get a hs letter explain their policy on grading because of the missing class.

i have the trip itinerary. But the accident went unreported and i did not miss school from the injuries. I was just bruised. It was the whole settlement, and the towing, and a visit to the doctor’s that led me to that.

But seriously, explain everything honestly. If the car accident didn’t really lead to your declining grades then don’t say it did. Or if preparing for the AP exams didn’t distract you too much from your school work, then don’t say that contributed to lower grades. BUT, if you got lazy and didn’t think it would be a huge deal (that Yale would get worked up over a few B’s) then do say that --well not what’s in parentheses. If this is the case then maybe propose something: that you’ll stay on academic probation your first semester or w/e.

Good luck and I really hope that you don’t get rescinded for this!

i think its the serious GPA drop from almost a 4.0 to a 3.0 thats causing yale to freak.

just send them a letter. All you can do. Good luck

the best you can do right now is send that letter. Don’t complain in the letter but just approach is with maturity.

I seriously doubt you will be rescinded. Bs should not be a reason. I got a C second semester senior year and it was fine. (Though I did have As in all my other subjects, so I don’t know if that mattered X_X)

once C is very different than a across-the-board drop.

However, it doesn’t seem like it was a like a go crazy senior year drop. I’m pretty sure Yale would understand once the OP explains the situation.

I think that Yale is basically trying to warn you because unfortunately, once they get into college, some students completely stop studying and then flunk out of college.

I doubt that Yale plans to rescind you.

Send a letter detailing what you told us, and letting Yale know the specifics of what you plan to do to maintain good grades at Yale. This should include your mentioning anything you could have done to have achieved better grades spring semester despite your visiting many colleges, etc.

Explain that once you submitted all of your applications and were accepted, you thought it was appropriate to work at a lower level so that each grade was not excellent, but merely good. You realise that these results are not satisfactory when you are giving your full effort, but second semester senior year did not call for that. Upon entering the higher-pressure environment of college, you plan to resume your previously excellent work habits. You have worked very hard to get where you are and intend to continue so that you may enjoy success at Yale.
