rescinded admission?...please help (NOT senioritis)

I got into Northwestern..but at the very end of senior year (I graduate in two weeks) I got really sick and was hospitalized for about 10 days. I missed a lot of school before then too from being sick. 2 of my classes are pretty rigorous AP's (AP Gov, which I need to graduate, and AP World, an elective). But because I missed so much class & I need Gov to graduate, I'm just finishing that course and dropping AP World because I simply don't have time to make up all the work before graduation. I should have a B in Gov on my final transcript. The rest of my classes will be A's and AP World will either show as a "pass" or a "withdraw".

My counselor is writing a letter w/ my final transcript explaining that I missed a ton of school for medical reasons and I made the extra effort to complete the Gov course (& the rest of my classes other than World) to the best of my ability, & that my transcript is not a reflection on me as a student, but rather an emergency circumstance.

But..I'm really worried NW will rescind my admission, even though all of this is due to something outside my control..does anyone know the policy for this?

Given that NWU isn’t staffed by hobgoblins and evil psychos, I’d imagine they would understand your circumstances. They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to craft their incoming classes. They’d be rather foolish to just dump someone they’ve courted, dontcha think?

Your best bet is to call Monday morning and spk w/an admissions officer.

You could also send a doctor’s note. No one is going to punish you for an illness so severe that you ended up in the hospital for 10 days.

we have been told that courses chosen as academic electives, while considered in admissions, are not ones that would be a problem if dropped or withdrawn from…

Don’t wait to hear from them. Contact NW admissions with all of the documentation, offering to fedex if necessary. Your guidance counselor will be going on holiday for the summer. If the admissions office wants to talk to him/her than you want to make sure they can do so easily within the next two weeks. I feel strongly you will be fine. I missed 1 month the spring of my Sr. year and accommodations were made. Just be proactive and don’t wait to hear how they react. They will respect that your are being upfront and you want to make sure they have all the documentation they need to show this was a medical issue, out of your control.
Best of luck and so glad you are feeling better! :)

The B will have no effect. They may want an explanation of the withdraw, but once given, I am confident that it won’t have any effect either.

blueiguana is right; don’t wait until the summer for some letter to go in with your transcript, call and talk to them now.

I was under the impression that colleges only rescinded for Ds and Fs, with the possibility of probation for Cs. You should be fine.

P.S. ‘Northwestern’ is abbreviated ‘NU’. =)

Nope, you can also be rescinded for filling out a planned program on your application and then not taking or completing those classes. Many colleges take difficulty of schedule into account, and a student who applies saying they’re taking one set of classes and then takes a different (and easier) set can be rescinded.
