Rescinded Admission Policy

Hello Everyone,

I was recently admitted to UCSD as a Transfer student with a 3.101 gpa as a History major. However, due to two losses in my family my studies fell through a little bit and I received my first D at my community college, I also earned a B and a C in my other two classes. These 3 grades dropped my gpa to a 2.986. What I want to know is that with a 2.99 gpa (roughly), am I at high risk of being rescinded? Will I have the opportunity to explain myself? I am extremely fearful of being rescinded since UCSD is the school I really want to go to. Any information as to how I can be proactive and make sure I am not rescinded or any information as to how many people they do rescinded due to this policy etc. Thank you for your time, I really appreciate any and all help.

In general, any D or F will put you in jeopardy of being rescinded. Since you have a legitimate reason for your downward grade trend, I would reach out to admissions, explain the situation and see if you can retake that D course this summer prior to attending UCSD. I would call now to find out your options.

Unfortunately my community college doesn’t offer the course this summer. I did email the admissions department and they also recommended that I retake the course but of course I can’t do that because it isn’t offered. I would like to point out the the course I got a D in, is Political Philosophy. It in no way affected my major prep(History major), my IGETC(already completed), and I already have 70 transferable units without that class if it wasn’t on my transcript. If there is anything else you can think of that I can do to make my odds better for not being rescinded please let me know. I am just really hopeful that they will look at the class I got the D in and see that it really doesn’t affect me at all, just ask for an explanation, and move on. That is of course wishful thinking though. Do you think I should be preparing for the worst?

I cannot really tell you what UCSD will decide, but since the class is not a major course, hopefully they will write it off as a glitch on your record. Best of luck and hope for the best.

I have a similar situation, a D in a non-major non-IGETC class, and doesn’t impact my credit total, I was taking 6 classes, 5 A’s and 1 D, I called admissions twice about it, and they said since my GPA is still above a 3.0, my credits still exceed 60 units, and it wasn’t an IGETC course or major pre-req, I’m fine. Idk for you though since ur GPA is below a 3.0, I mean they might overlook it, try calling again and see if u can get to talk to an admissions officer, they’ll give u a more clear answer. Good luck!

I was in the same position. I got a D in one of my classes, it wasn’t an IGETC class, I’m over 60units, I’m still meeting all the GPA terms in my contract, and it wasn’t a major course (well it is for the specialization I want to do but I was admitted under general so I’m just leaving it at that for now). Anyways my school doesn’t offer the class over summer so I basically went through all the schools on assist to see if they had an equivalent course that I could take online so I ended up retaking that class online with a B+ at Foothill College.
I’m not even sure if I had to do that anymore but better safe than sorry! Also when I called admissions the first time they were very unhelpful saying that they wouldn’t know exactly how the D would affect me until they got my official transcripts.

I got a D in Calc II at the end of my spring semester but it didn’t affect my credit total of 60 units, wasn’t a major pre-req or a IGETC course, my semester GPA and overall GPA were above 2.0 and 3.0 and I didn’t get rescinded. Since it violates the GPA req I would call in about that, that’s iffy, idk if you’ve already resolved this and I’m giving unwanted advice, good luck!
