Rescinded for not taking AP tests as specified in application

Hi everyone,

I signed up for 5 AP classes (Macro, Gov, Comp/Lit, Art History, and BC) my senior year but the deadly disease called senioritis kicked in when my school was offering AP test sign-ups and I decided to only take 4 out of the 5 I said I would take on my app.

Will Berkeley rescind me because of this? I haven’t found clear answers on the internet so please help a brotha out!

Thanks in advance!

I don’t think so

@dandan131313 Don’t worry about it at all. They wouldn’t care if you took none of the AP tests or if you took all of them and failed. I’ve seen this question a lot on reddit and on CC and every time the answer has been “no, it doesn’t matter,” so I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter. I don’t think they’ll even know if you took the AP tests you said you would

@dandan131313 I’m actually in a similar situation, I called Berkeley and they said that it shouldn’t be a problem but they said that it is important that we update our MAPS asap, but would that mean submitting one of the conditions of admissions forms?

You’re finishing the AP courses, so it doesn’t matter if you take the exams. Berkeley doesn’t require you to send AP scores (I don’t think any college requires it actually), and they cannot check on your scores without you. It would be a different story if you were dropping the AP classes, since that’s a change in rigor. And you’re still taking four AP exams. Don’t worry about it.

(on CalCentral, though, it says that there are “Actions Required”–that is, submitting all of our AP test scores, which is why I assume OP is worried. so am I–I decided not to take one of my AP tests because I realized it would be useless for college credit and why pay $100 for that?)

My older daughter did the exact same thing – only taking 4 out of 5 AP tests senior year. The university that she went to (in the northeast – not Berkeley) didn’t seem to care. She got credit for the 4 AP tests that she did take, still got her merit scholarship, and has been doing well at university ever since.

She did complete all of the classes and got good grades in them (4 A’s, one B+).

Same problem here.

It seems we would be fine. But if not taking planned AP tests would not be a problem, then what should I do to get off the unwanted AP tests in the “Tasks” section on CalCentral? It says “07/16” and “Initiated”.

I’ve submitted the Admissions Update Form and been waiting for 5 days…

bumping this thread.

@dandan131313 and @scarletwitchx How did things turn out?

Same question here. Thanks

@kingdish Did they update your CalCentral Tasks and remove that AP requirement? Thanks

they said it was fine and took the task off CalCentral (although I think taking it off CalCentral took a while)

In my UG Freshmen UC Apps, I mentioned that I’m going to take 5 AP tests (Gov, Eco, Stats, two Physics) in coming May 2018! However, I’m considering not to take two AP Physics © - Mechanical and Electrical. Please note that I am planning finish AP Physics class with C or better.

Now I got in to UCB - Letters and Science. What should I do? Should I submit the “Undergraduate Admissions Update Form” and explain my request in comments?

Also is it required to take this out of the CalCentral task list?

Folks, who were in similar situation earlier, can you please share your experience and suggestions.

Thanks for your time.

I said I would take 6 AP exams and ended up taking 0. I’m graduating from Berkeley in a month, so I’d say you’re fine.

if you really feel iffy, just let them know you changed your mind and it shouldn’t be a problem

I’ve never understood why kids don’t just take the AP test for the class that they are attending. The only exception is if you got accepted as ED somewhere else and that school didn’t accept that credit. Otherwise it’s relatively cheap to take the test, you’re studying for it anyways, and it will cost you what, 2 or 3 hours out of your day? And in the case of the UC App, I believe that you have to explicitly state the AP tests you are actually going to take, so it’s not like someone forced you to put down those tests. So why take a chance on rocking the boat?

If you do request an update, updates won’t show up until after May.

No reason to waste money if the college you are attending does not give credit for the test.

This is a Berkeley thread and they do give credit for all AP classes with a score 3 or above.

Senioritis is NOT a disease.

It’s a choice.

It shouldn’t be a problem. The only downside would be that you won’t receive credit for the classes, but if that’s not an issue and if your HS is good with it, it’s a total non-issue (as long as you pass the class!)
