Rescinded from San Diego State :(

For my fall semester I got a D in goverment but I made that class up in night school. I also got in F in AP Statistics for the fall semester and had to drop the class but the class was not required because I already had all my math credits. The fail would have not dropped my overall GPA for the senior year because I am getting a 4.0 for the spring semester. I told this to the admissions office but they told me that just by getting D's or F's in my senior year in any class even if the class didnt count I would be recisded because they would label it as senioritis. They also said that even if i made up the classes (which i did for gorvenment because that class did count) they would still reject me because according to them its not about the academic part but that I had fallen for senioritis.

My options are to either submit my intent to enroll to either UC Riverside or Cal State LA and hope that they dont rescind me or go to a community college and transfer to a college of my choice from there. Any suggestions?

honestly it's b/s. San Diego State cannot rescind your admissions if you meet the a-g requirements and have a high enough gpa and good sat score taht would have still count you in for admissions had you not taken ap statistics in the first place. if it isn't a required course, than they shouldn't rescind your admissions.

my only question is why are you stressing out? In my opinion I would rather hit up a community college and aim for UCSB(similar environment to SDSU). At the very worst you'll end up at SDSU as a transfer student. It's super easy to transfer in as a community college student at any of the UC's or Cal States as long as you keep up a good gpa.

Sure they can rescind. And as locster indicates, in fact they did. It's up to them, not you.

Did they actually rescind, or did some guy in the admissions office just say they would rescind? They haven't even gotten the official grades yet. And I can't believe they're going to, regardless of what they say. Let's see it happen. I mean, come on, HARVARD doesn't rescind admissions for one bad grade in senior year.

I told my DH, a HS teacher, about this, and he said if all the colleges his students have been accepted to were to do this (and that includes NYU, The College of NJ, BU, BC), then ALL the kids would be in CC next year. He had just been saying how at least 25 percent of the seniors in his fairly competitive school are cutting on any given day in June. They ALL have senioritis!!!

Cutting one day is a bit different than failing a class. Why would you say that Harvard wouldn't rescind admission for an F?

I could see you having a case, though, because you have a 4.0 otherwise. Why was this class so different? If you have a legitimate reason, then there might still be hope.

I got sent a letter saying I was rescinded. I actually got a different response prior to that in an email from them. They replied to my question about the failing grade saying that as long as i had all my credits and the grade did not bring down my overall gpa I would be fine but that wasnt the case as you can see.

Go to UCR, it's a better school, anyways.

I saw it happen at our high school last year. A kid got rescinded from UCSD for getting one D. I know of another kid who got rescinded from Yale for getting two Cs. It really happens.

Where do people get the idea it's all a big bluff? Every year we see kids here on CC get rescinded. I've never been able to understand why a kid would work so hard to get into a good college and then throw it all away for the sake of a round of senioritis. Sad.

Believe me there are loopholes, just keep working the system, until they meet your demands. Can you contact someone of "authority" at your school, like a counselor of sorts, tell them your dilemma and perhaps just erase that entire class from your transcript?

"...just keep working the system, until they meet your demands."

The OP may be able to work out some sort of deal - to make up the class over the summer or something, but he is not in a position to "demand" anything. He should go in with an attitude of seeing what it will take to meet their demands.

"I actually got a different response prior to that in an email from them. They replied to my question about the failing grade saying that as long as i had all my credits and the grade did not bring down my overall gpa I would be fine but that wasnt the case as you can see."

If you still have that e-mail then go to the admissions office and insist that your offer for admission be reinstated... by misleading you, you focused on THEIR school instead of other schools that may not have a problem with those bad grades...

This is what I got from them in the email reply

"It will depend on how the failed course affects your cumulative GPA. If it does not lower your GPA from what you reported on your application, then it will not affect your offer of admission as long as this is the only "D" or "F" grade that you received in your senior year.

I failed and dropped a class (AP Statistics), that was not required for admission since I already had all my math credits. Will this affect my admittance to the university in any way?"

What makes me even more mad was that I deserved a B or atleast a C in government but I had a bogus teacher, and for the statistics class I failed because the teacher did not know how to teach or speak proper english.

I don't think colleges would like it if you just straight up blame your teachers.
