Hello,

I was given an $8500/yr. scholarship at the U. of Arizona. However, this last semester, my grades slipped a bit, and I ended up with an A, a B, and 3 Cs. Is there a chance they'll take my scholarship away?

Hello,

I was given an $8500/yr. scholarship at the U. of Arizona. However, this last semester, my grades slipped a bit, and I ended up with an A, a B, and 3 Cs. Is there a chance they'll take my scholarship away?

You need to check with U of Arizona. On your merit award, there should have been a GPA requirement for keeping the merit aid, if there is one. If you have gone below that GPA requirement you need to check with the college. They know their policy and they also know what YOUR scholarship award requires.

The scholarship requires that I keep a 3.0 GPA while at the U. of Arizona in order to renew my scholarship for four years. However, it says nothing about the award being contingent on any specific high school GPA beyond the standard vague “this is contingent on high school graduation and academic performance” warning.

Sorry Uman, I misunderstood your post. It sounded like you already WERE a student at U of Arizona. I have no idea what the answer to your question is. I would think that this scholarship would not be affected except by grades you earn at U of Arizona (don’t let your “senioritis” linger…). You WILL be sending them a final transcript. Was there anything in about your specific scholarship that indicated that HS GPA was part of the contingency of the award (e.g. some scholarships are for students with GPAs in above ___ and SAT scores above____)?

Parent here: I’m guessing you are OK, but you are going to need to step it up when you arrive at college to keep the 3.0 GPA. Do check and see if it’s reviewed annually or each semester - my guess annually. I’m assuming you had a bad case of senioritis but be careful that you don’t get freshman-itis when you arrive on campus.

Some scholarship awards have minimum qualification criteria such as ACT/SAT scores and or cumulative HS GPAs. Usually the award should include that criteria as well as the standards for keeping the scholarship. As long as your cumulative HS GPA has not dropped below the minimum required to qualify you should be ok.

Thank you everyone for reassuring me. Yes I got senioritis bad but I plan on not allowing the pattern to continue in college! There was no minimum GPA requirement listed on the scholarship, so I guess I’m fine.

Just like a sport - never take your eye off the ball…it will hit you in the head. All the best for you for next year!
