Hey guys a few months ago I was accepted to my dream school. I recently came down with a horrible flu and because of this one of my grades may fall to a D. I predict that if I do get a D my gpa will be around a 3.1 uw. Do colleges rescind based on letter grade or gpa and will this D be a deal breaker?

You need to speak with the NYU admissions office. It would help if your guidance counselor contacts them as well.

Definitely explain the situation to NYU and talk to your teacher and see if there's any possible way for you to bring the grade up.

Get well soon. I think you will be able to keep your offer of admission. I had the flu once during semester finals at my professional school, and I could hardly remember anything I learned all semester as I took my tests. Now I get the flu shot every year.

It would definitely be best to be proactive and let the school know upfront about the poor grade. As soon as you know for sure that the grade is really as bad as you think, send a letter in about the reason for it. It could also help to get your teacher to write a supporting letter about how the grade was caused by sickness, not slacking off.

IMHO...first talk to the teacher. While your per centages may suggest you will "earn" a D for this marking period, you teacher may be taking into account your illness, and planning to assign a very different grade....you may wish to talk with your teacher, ask what you can do to make up for the illness....BEFORE you even contact NYU.
