Rescinding and Probation

What does it take to get rescinded? When I was admitted EA, I had a 4.0, but since then, my grades have dropped substantially, including a C midyear, and possibly another C this semester. It isn't because I'm slacking. I really am trying my hardest, but the courseload I'm taking this year is by far the hardest I've ever taken, including several post-AP level classes. Not to mention, one of my teachers in a completely essay-based class has a grudge against my friends and me because we're part of a special program.

I've heard that a C is ok, but they'll ask for a reason, and it better be good. I don't really have a reason besides what I just mentioned. I'm really stressed and worried.

I've also heard that if your senior year grades are bad, and they don't rescind you, you'll still be put on probation. What is probation? Can freshmen be put on probation (I thought it was only for people in danger of failing out of MIT)? I've only heard of this from my counselor, and I don't think that's the most reliable source.

Hi, I am in exactly the same boat as you. I have always gotten A’s, this is my first year ever of getting B’s, and I have one grade that is teetering between a B- and a C+ that has been really worrying me. And I already enrolled at MIT and told all of my other schools :
A few days ago I called up admissions and asked them some questions to ease my worries a bit. From what I got out of the conversation, if you didn’t hear anything back about your midyear report, then it’s okay to get those grades on your final report. He did mention that if you get any C’s on your final report, then you’ll get a letter… but it didn’t seem like anything more happens. Just a warning letter of some sort. Or I guess an explanation. But you don’t get kicked out or even put on probation over one C, from what I gather.
Not sure how much this helped, but I am at least glad that there’s someone else going to MIT who is in this same situation! Best of luck to you!
