I actually know a person that skipped school to go play poker at indian reservations where its only 18 to gamble. He got kicked out of school because he never came to school but then he got letters saying he was psychotic and now he goes to Rutgers University WITHOUT going through his Senior YEAR!

Pretty crazy but it happens.

my friend got leukemia end of senior year and he missed like a month of school. He was deathly sick, and the school immediatly froze his grades and hosted our own little graduation ceremony for him at the hospital the week of regular graduation. The principal, his good friends and part of the school's band showed up to cheer him on. His admission was just deferred because the college understood what he was going through.

sybbie719, I forgot to mention something; since the absences were medical, the person was given the opportunity to make up work from all 57 days, and he did-doing nearly perfectly on them.

Even if this is the case, most schools have a process on how to handle students who are out due to medical illness (remember a schools attendance records and grades are subject to audit by the state department of education).

In many states if a student cannot attend school due to illness, the department of education has a home instruction division where the student is taught at home. Work is given grades are given and they are placed on the transcript. When a home insturuction grade shows up on the transcript you cannot tell the difference between that grade and the grade that you took at your school. we have had students who due to illness have taken their 4 years of high school at home under home instruction but still received their high school diploma from the school.

If a student is hospitalized for a long period of time the department of education also have teachers whose solely work in hospitals with sick students.

well, my school puts attendance records on the transcript. X(
