Rescoring June SAT (Score Verification)

I was shocked when I saw my SAT score. It just exceeded 2200 and the combined score for reading and writing is over 100 points lower than I expected, especially considering that I compare my results with the consolidated answers on CC. I am almost certain that I would go with score verification service for both multiple choice and essay (I know I have bad handwriting), but so far, I have not found any verifiable successful case except a mass error (4000 students) back in 2006 and some successful cases for Subject SAT Bio.

I would appreciate anyone who can provide more information and hopefully some verifiable cases.

lionheart764, I’m in the exact same position as you are. My June math and critical reading scores were much lower than I had expected - also having compared my answers with those on CC. My June composite score was 100 points lower than my March one, which is weird because I practiced for the SAT with a private tutor from March to June and seemed to be improving in the individual sections.

I took the test on a Sunday, did you? Maybe there’s some sort of messed up Sunday curve or something…

I’m hoping someone out there on CC has some sort of helpful experience with this type of thing that they can share.

I would wait until you saw your score verification information before contacting the College Board. It may be that you made an error on your bubble-in sheet, or that you simply miscalculated.

I have a similar problem. My math score (720) was much lower than I expected, even though I was getting consistent 800 in math by using real, past SAT tests (on the flip side, my CR and writing score were exactly the same as what I got in practice). I’m starting to wonder if a bubbling error or something happened (then again, I got 3 hours of sleep before the test, so maybe that’s why…). By the way, does anyone have a consolidated math curve? The current curve seeems quite harsh.

The detailed score report comes out in a week and a half…when is the deadline for using the score verification service?

I think it’s up to 5 months after the test date.

im a new member and after i got my scores this morning i was incredibly upset. i had studied for months intensively only to find my score was about 200 points lower than what i had expected/wanted. collegeboard may not be at fault for this, but if they are, I will be furious. We’ll see when the detailed score reports come out because i skipped no more than 5 questions on all 3 sections.

^ 5 for each section or 5 total?

If you skipped 5 on each section, then you lost 200+ points right there.

5 total at max. it may have been less than that

againstallodds, no I took it on Saturday June 5th.

Teeninvestor, both reading and writing scores are significantly lower than my practices. In the 2-3 weeks (after AP tests) I was preparing for the SAT test, the total mistakes for the entire test has never been more than 5 or 6 and most of time 2 or 3 wrong answers when using Grubber’s. There are two potential scenarios I can think of:

The predicted curve for Critical Reading is not very generous or the posted answers have errors or my had wrong memory when comparing the answers. I could only find one potential error in each of Reading and Writing sections when comparing CC consolidated answers.

I did not erase corrections completely and messed up the scan. I am not the ‘neatest’ person and it can happen. If this is the case, I wish hand scoring can help re-gain a couple of ‘wrong’ answers. However, based on the rules, hand grading can ONLY correct machine errors but will NOT consider incomplete erases.

Anyway, I have received the Score Verification Form and need to fill and send it back. I would feel more comfortable if there are successful cases in this forum.

How did you request the Score verification form?

sic_infit, call College Board and ask for the Score Verification Form. They will email you a link for downloading. You need to fill it out and mail it back with payment. The form itself is generic, but I think they may need to establish a case for you when you call.

There’s your problem. The only practice tests that could even provide a somewhat accurate prediction of your actual scores would be the ones in the Blue Book.

Did two practice tests in the Blue Book and felt they were easier than Grubber’s. One complete test and one finished in 2 days. Had better score than Grubber’s as Grubber’s math is more difficult (I got 800 on Math) and the reading section does not mark line numbers, which makes it more difficult to answer. I ‘re-calibrated’ my reading skill by taking two practice reading sections the day before using the Blue Book, and I was right on.

same thing for me guys, my writing score seems to be to low for what I did, as in I was really confident doing those sections of the test and I thought I wrote a really good essay. I might get the verification but Im not sure, and also since I was a standby they might have messed something up. Anyone know any cases where cb actually did mess something up besides the bio thing awhile back, is it even possible for them to screw grading up?

okay so I wasn’t the only one who was shocked when I received my scores
both my critical reading and writing scores were each about 100 points lower than what I expected based on my progress from the collegeboard practice tests I took, I’m considering getting a score verification as well

You also have to understand that just because you got a certain score repeatedly on a practice test doesn’t mean you will get the same score on your SAT. My CR score was 50 points higher than I had received on any prior practice test, and my writing was 50 points lower. It’s all subject to change.

To be honest, this thread sounds like complaints from people who didn’t score as high as they wanted/projected, and are trying to make excuses for it. Wait until you see the detailed score reports before jumping to the conclusion that CB made a mistake.

^ No. Before looking at my scores I had checked the consolidated answers in depth and definetley could predict my score.

^Then like I said, wait until you see your detailed score report. Odds are you got off on your bubbling, or some other minute mistake.

I, for one, am baffled as to how you people can remember your answers to all the questions to check the consolidated list.

It can be as simple as 3 wrong answers in CR to get you down to 740 (my score) if the curve is the same as March’s. If the curve is what CCers projected (you can get 800 with 3 wrong answers) because of the difficulties, you have to make about 6 mistakes. I am thinking it should be somewhere in between as I have not see many scored a perfect 800 in CR.

For Writing sections, 4 wrong answers can get you down to 670 (also my score) with an 8 essay (BIG SURPRISE). But for this particular test, if it takes 5 or 6 wrong MC answers to get 670, a verification is definitely needed.

Anyway, I will take Pioneer’s recommendation to wait until detailed report coming out before sending out my Verification Form.

Also, for those who are interested, CB does not re-read your essay. It mearly check whether they mis-recording your scores or the scan went wrong that your readers did not have your full essay.
