How to undergrads get involved in research? This is one thing I don't understand about pre-med.
How do you get to do doctor-esque things, without being an M.D.? Do campuses have research options?

All the schools that I was accepted to had research options, whether it was a big research university or a small liberal arts college. It can be during the school year, during the summer, or both, depending on the school. I highly recommend you do a little research on your school's website, or contact an advisor from your school.

As for clinical work and EMT and such, this is not guaranteed by all schools, though most good schools will provide their students some help in securing such opportunities. For instance, the school I will be attending has their own EMT program along with connections to several hospitals for internships, physician shadowing, and clinical volunteering. Again, I recommend you research your college's website or get in contact with an advisor.

And all schools obviously have general volunteer clubs in which students of all majors and concentrations get involved.

Summary: get accustomed with your college's website.

Figure out what you're interested in researching. Find a professor at your school who's looking into that subject area. Look up some of that professor's papers. Try to arrange a meeting with that professor to see if you can work in their lab.

You don't. You do what the doctor tells you to.
