Research at Notre Dame

I was wondering if high school seniors entering Notre Dame can actually pursue research at the university this summer. If so, do you guys know if a lot of these people get paid (or even get room and board)?

Also, I was wondering if undergraduate research can count as campus employment for fufilling the financial aid package.

Thanks.

I am doubting it, but you never know. If the professor has a grant it is possible. As for doing it for funding, I know in psychology there were a few labs that funded undergrads when I was at ND a few years back, but they were the labs that weren’t popular and couldn’t get people to volunteer. I honestly am not available what is available now. What type of research are you hoping to do? It may be worth shooting an email to professors doing the work you want to do, the worst they can say is no.

Get started in research early regardless, it is a great thing (can you tell I am a PhD student :))

The work does count for your finaid package, but I think there are limited opportunities. Also, a lot of the paid “research” jobs are the ones where you end up doing the grunt work or washing beakers. Most of the interesting research I know people are doing is for credit. Though I also know some people who do both.

I dunno if you can start this summer. If so, I doubt there is funding left since most of the paid spots have been snatched by undergrads. However, as irish said, start early!
