Has anyone got any research awards from Penn, like giving them monetary aid and naming them a research scholar or anything like that? I know like Cornell has a presidential research scholar and rochester has a portable research grant which are offered at the time of admission. does penn have anything like that?

There’s a couple honors research programs which give you funding to do research during the summer (and during the school year?) There’s University Scholars, a new one for engineers (can’t remember the name…starts with an “R”), and I think Benjamin Franklin also. There might be some for Wharton and Nursing, but I’m not familiar with those.

the Wharton research program (Joseph Wharton Scholar program) is an extension of Ben Franklin Scholars program. Just my 2 cents

Both my Penn kids (Chem Major and Wharton) have applied for and received research money for summer research at Penn. The money ranged from $1000 to $4000 and sometimes included housing or other money to supplement the cost of doing the research. The programs are competitive and require proposals and/or an agreement by a faculty member to act as a research assistant. Check with CURF (I think that’s the Center for Undergraduate Fellowship) and with individual departments to see what opportunities might be available. These were all outside of the University Scholar Program. The Wharton kid is a Joseph Wharton Scholar/BFS, but that was not a requirement to get the funding.

Yeah I got a $4000 grant last summer. CURF has a lot of really good opportunities.
