What other feilds, outside of science and mathmatics, can you be recongized in? More specficially, more quite some time, I have longed to put together a formal research project in music theory. However, as many do, I want award to put on my resume. Does anyone know of a "competition" like this, or one without too strict of guidlines?

In response to fallopiantube, I didn't do it just to fluff up my application. I did it because it was actually interesting to me. I had a senior in my AP Psychology class who was valedictorian, and I talked to her, and found out she volunteered at a research lab after school and that she also entered some competition in Maryland for research. I thought it was pretty cool and asked how she got involved, and she said how our medical magnet counselor got her into a program that let high school students do research and pay them for it. Honestly, I didn't even know that that type of stuff appears on college application, until my medical magnet counselor mentioned it looked good for college. I am glad I did it because it made me realize that I am truly interested in science and made me more in love with science.

Since this thread is being bumped anyway...

How do all you overachievers find time for research? After school is a big no for me as I have sports. Would a few hours on the weekend be a good amount?

Everyone I know who does research is either summer only or has significant portions of the class schedule set aside to do research.
