<p>I'm a sophmore in High School, and I'm interested in doing some sort of research internship, particularly in medicine or any of the sciences. I live in Western MA, and pretty much everything I've found in state is in Boston. I was looking for something a lot closer. </p>
<p>Where can I start looking for opportunities nearby? And also, how competitive are research spots usually? What criteria do they usually have?</p>
<p>I'm not sure how competitive the internships spots are. Have you ever volunteered at a hospital? or science museum? perhaps that could lead you to an internship</p>

<p>call up a university near you and tell them that you'd love to volunteer in a lab. you could also try a local hospital. as a high school soph you <em>probably</em> won't get a fabulous research internship, but you could get some really wonderful experience as more of a volunteer than an intern. that would pave the way for a really nice internship next summer!!</p>
